WINDOW-BEAD FASTENER.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHRISTIAN CASSLE- MAN, a citizen of the United States, residing in Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Window-Bead Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is intended to render convenient the swinging of windows which are norn'ially operated by sliding them up and down. In order to swing such windows it is necessary first to remove what is known as the stop strip at least upon one side and hence I make a section of the stop strip at the swinging side of the window separate from the remainder of the strip and secure it in place by thumb screws which are permanently secured in the strip and have permanently located screw sockets in the window frame to receive them. I also have adopted means whereby when this removable section of the stop strip is taken out, the thumb screws will be retained by them and do not fall out or become lost, so that when the strip is returned to place the screws will be ready for immediate service. All these features of the invention are fully set forth below and also illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is an inside elevation of a window provided with my invention; Fig. 2 is a section on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1; and Fig. 3 shows the bushing which engages the screw I detached.

their inner ends and such threaded portion enters and engages with a. bushing 14 permanently inserted in the surrounding frame of the window. This bushing is threaded both inside and outside, the thread upon the inside being fine and adapted to receive the end of the screw, and the outside thread being coarse to better adapt it to engage with the wood of the window frame. The threaded end of this screw is larger in diameter than the stem in'n'nediately above the screw and consequently in order to pass it through the retaining or guard plate 15 which is attached to the stop strip by screws as shown. it must be threaded through said guard plate. This permits the screw to be passed through the plate but the threads on the screw act to prevent the screw from being drawn bodily through the plate and consequently there is no danger of its being lost when the stop is taken out. On the contrary it is held and remains with the stop strip and when the strip is returned to place it is ready for instant engagement with the bushing. The bushing is inserted by means of a screw driver entering the slot 16 on its end.
I claim V 1. The combination with the removable section of the stop, of a thumb screw for attaching the same to the window frame. and a retaining plate secured to the stop, the screw being threaded through the plate and thereby prevented from dropping out of the removable section when the latter is removed.
2. The combination with the removable section of the stop strip of an attaching screw, a bushing inserted in the window frame and fitting the end of the screw, a retaining plate secured to the removable section through which the attaching screw is threaded.
