Be t known that I, DOMINGO DESPLATS, shorthand typst, a citzen of Argentina, ancl residing at 240-25 de Mayo street, Buenos Ayres, Argentina, have nvented an Improve- 1nent in Door-Checks, of which the following is a specification.
This inventon relates to that class of door checks Which are provided to prevent the 61001 01 window from comng nto contact with the wall and also t0 catch automatically and mantan t in open position against any ordnary wind 01 other cause t0 prevent sammng.
The objects of this nventon therefore are to provide an automatc catchng devce and a means for automatically releasng the (1001 at will wthout the necessty of sto0ping t0 release the catch. These objects are attaned by means of the device illustrated in the drawng in which- Figure 1 is a sde elevaton of the device secured in place. F 1g. 2 is a plan view there- 0f. Fig. 3 s a sectional view on line 8-3 of Fig. 1.
In the construction the member A is attachec to the floor or wall and carres a circu1ar toothed elen1ent 01 ratchet wheel B secured t0 said me1nber A by means of a stud D and washer C. A counter support E is attached to the door or wndow and supports in a horizontal position thc catch plate G, whch has a slot P t0 engage with the teeth in t-he ratchet wheel B.
'lhe counter support E in its preferred form consists of a plate adapted to be bent in the shape of a trough, wth ts open side toward the door, said plate beng provided with a hole M for the fastening screw, and Wth a 1ecess E adapted to hold the catch G. The catch plate G has lateral recesses L and a downward rear extenscn by means of' whch t is suspended on the support E in order to mantain it in a horizontal position as shown in Fig. 1.
The washer C and stud screw D attach the ratchet wheel to the support A in a manner which prevents the free 1novement of the wheel. The ratchet plate G, when the door s opened, moves over the teeth N of the wheel B and catches; the frction of the washer C and stud screw D holds the door in an open position against the Wall under nearly all ordinary conditions, but a more than usual pressure against the door causes che ratchet wheel to turn sufiiciently t0 release the catch, and door.
I claim A coor check comprising in combnaton, a fixed mcmber, a crcular toothed element, 1neans frctionally securing sad element to said member to retald rotation of the former, and a devce mounted upon the (1001 and provided with a porton for automatic engagement With and dsengagement frena said toothed element.
