Description

H. DAHLMANN. BLADE FOR SPADES ORSHOVELS.
APPLICATION FILED MAY 7, 1909.
Patented Dec. 7, 1909.
in-U! 002 HERMANN DAHLMANN, OF GEVELSBERG, GERMANY.
BLADE FOR SPADES 0R SHOVELS.
1 '0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, I-IERMANN DAHL- MANN, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, and resident of Gevelsberg, Germany, have invented a new and useful Improve ment in Blades for Spades or Shovels, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a spadeor shovelblade of sheet-iron or steel.
By the peculiar shaping on cutting out the blank for the blade and socket I make possible the production of two fastening strips at the edge of the socket such as are used in forged blades.
In accordance with my invention the blank is cut out in such a shape that, after the socket-portion of the blade has been bent to a sleeve, the seam lies laterally to the handle. Thereby the arrangement of a fastoning strip each at the front and the back of the handle is made possible.
My invention is illustrated on the accompanying drawing in which Figure 1 shows the cut out blank in front elevation, Fig. 2 a side-elevation of theblade in the finished state, and Fig. 3 this blade in front.
Vith reference to the drawing a is the blade-portion of the spade or shovel pro- Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 494,527.
vided at its upper edge with the socket-forming portion. This latter comprises a neckportion 1) which has in the middle of its upper free edge a fastening strip d of a suitable shape. This strip projects longitudinally in the direction of the middle-axis of the spade-blade. To one of the remaining edges of the neck-portion there is arranged laterally a projection c which bears at its upper edge a second fastening strip (Z, this latter runs parallelly to the first mentioned strip cl. The socket-forming portion above described is bent to a sleeve, and the strip (Z is thereby placed to the front and the strip cl to the back of the socket. I
Having now described the nature of my invention what I claim and desire to pro tect by Letters Patent is A shovel blade having a laterally closed handle socket formed integral therewith and fastening strips extending from the upper edge of said socket.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two witnesses.
HERMANN DAI-ILMANN.
