Specification of Letters Patent.

I Application led November 28, 1908. 'Serial No. 464,892.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, STANIsLAUs PAL- MoWsKY, a subject of the Czar of Russia, residing in the borough of Manhattan, New York, i-n the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in CigaretteLTipping Machines, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

My invention relates to improvements in cigarette `tipping machines and has particular reference to means for conveying away and depositing the cigarettes from the machine after they have been tipped 'and is adapted for use with the apparatus set forth' companion applications, Ser. N um#A 1n my bers 464890 and 464891.

Referring to the accompanying'drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view partly .in section illustrating an apparatus embodying my invention. Eig. 2 is a side elevation -of the same. v

141 indicates the table upon which each cigarette is deposited and tipped. `150 are conveying rails for taking the cigarette froml 'said table and depositing same upon the table 151 along which the lcigarette is progressed step vby step as set forth in my companion applications referred to, until it arrives at the dischargedrum 152 upon which it is finally deposited by said conveying rails. These conveying rails 150 are slidably mounted in the bearing 175 and are reciprocated therein by the bar 176 attached to the gear wheel 177 meshing with the gear wheel 167 having pinion 165 upon the shaft 166,' the gear 167 meshing with gear 168 upon the main driving shaft 169. The rails are vertically reciprocated by the bar 180 attached lto the standard 181 carrying the bearing 175. This bar 180 is pivoted at 182 to the framework of the machine and is provided with the roller 183 riding on the cam 184 of the gear 168 on the main driving shaft. f

rIhe discharge drum 152 upon which the cigarettes are fed from the conveying rails, rotates upon the spindle 153 provided with the gear 154 meshing with the gear 155 upon the shaft'vl56 provided with the pinion 158 meshing with the 'worm 159 upon the shaft 160. cigarettes successively, carrying the same downwardly until they meet a second toothed y drum 157 to which the cigarettes are successively transferred as shown in the drawings, said second drum being operatedupon the spindle 156 by the gear 155 as aforesaid. :Shields such as 158a and 159 are also preferably appliedl beyond the peripheries of the drums to ihsure against accidental premature discharge .of the cigarettes.

162a is an endless sprocket `chain suitably mounted beneath the lower discharge drum as shown and operating upon sprockets 180a and .181% the latter ofwhich is mounted upon the shaft with the sprocket 163a driven by the sprocket chain 182a from the sprocket 183*1 suitably driven as shown. 170 is a suita-ble chute upon which the cigarettes are discharged froin the second drum '157 and-upon which said cigarettes slide into the container 171 provided with depending projectipn 1841 adapted to engagethe sprocket chain 162, so that as the cigarettes are de osited in the container, the container is slow y progressed for the purpose Iof evenly distributing the cigarettes therein.

0f courseit will be understood that while the feeding and tipping mechanism is not disclosed in this application, various forms of feeding and tipping mechanism may be employed other than those shown in the ac-p companying applications herein referred to, and various modifications may. be made in this inventionwithout departing from the spirit of the same.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters 1'. Ina cigarette tipping machine, conveying rails for conveying the tipped cigarettes to a `revolving drum, said drum having hook shaped pockets, a second drum coacting with said first' mentioned drum and adapted to receive the cigarettes therefrom, a chute upon 2. I n a cigarette tipping machine, conveying rails for conveying the tipped cigarettes to a revolving drum, said drum having hook shaped pockets, a second drum coacting with said first mentioned drum and adapted to receive the cigarettes therefrom, a chute upon which said cigarettes are discharged by said 15 second drum, a box into which said cigarettes are finally discharged and an endless belt for feeding said box into position to receive said cigarettes.
