To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH HAY AMIES, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a-certain new and useful Method of.Preparing Mineral Materials and the Like for Street and Road Construction.
It is Well known that boilin asphalt, tar or pitch when mixed with hot steaming water will foam and expand to such an extent that a very small quantity thereof will I fill to {overflowing a kettle or still large enough to hold, under ordinary conditions, three or four hundred gallons.
It is the principal object of my present invention to take advantage of this fact'when preparin minerals or fibrous materials for street an road construction.
My process is as follows:--Ifplace at the bottom of akettle or still a sufliclent amount of water, preferably in a boiling condition. I then add thereto and mix therewith adue amount of'boiling asphalt and durin the foaming of the said asphalt I throw tieresoil or fibrous materials. It is desirable to throw these elemeilts into the asphalt, at and during the foaming period, in small quantities, since better results can be secured in this waythan by throwing "the whole batch in on the foaming elements.
