FRANK S. NOVOTNY, OF ST. PAUL, MINNESOTA, ASSIGNOR OF ON E-HALF TO JUSTUS C. FRENCH, OF BURLINGTON, VERMONT.
NON-REFILLABLE BOTTLE.
To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, Frank S. NOVOTNY,
a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Paul, in the county of Ramsey and State of M innesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Non-Refillable Bot tles, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in non-refillable bottles its object being to provide an improved form of closure for the bottle which will allow the contents to be freely poured therefrom but which will prevent the bottle being refilled, the object being particularly to provide a construction which will be-impossiblc to tamper with by a wire or other device.
To this end my invention consists in the features of construction and combination hereinafter particularly described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming .part of this specification, Figure l is a vertieal transverse section through a bottle neck fitted with my invention; Fig. 2 is a similar view with the valve in open position; Fig. 3 is a section on line 00-00 of Fig. 1; Fig. 4 is an elevation of my'device shown in position in the bottle neck; Fig. 5 is an elevation of my device partly broken away, and Fig. 6 is a sectional view of a modified construction.
In the drawings A represents a bottle and B the neck, Fitted within the bottle neck below the shoulder 2 is my improved device. As shownin Figs. 1 to 4 this device comprises an outer thimble or chamber 3 open at its upper end and having its upper edge 4 outwardly flared underneath the shoulder 52. Extending through the bottom of the chamber 3 is an inner chamber 5 having a closed upper end and opening into the bottle at its lower end; The lower end of the inner chamber 5 is formed with a shoulder 6 fitting underneath the bottom of the outer chamber 3 and separated from the surrounding wall of the bottle by an interposed cork ring 7 Fitted within the lower end of the inner chamber 5 is atube or conduit 8 covered by a cap 9 which slides within said chamber. The inner chamber 5 is formed above the conduit 8 with openings 10 which constitute the inlet openings of the deVlut as hereinafter pointed out.
In applying my device to a-bottle it is Specification of Letters Patent.
"lVith this form,
duit secured in the Patented Dec. '7, 1909.
Application filed March 13, 1908, Serial No. 420,851.
merely necessary to insert the same into the neck of a bottle as indicated in Fig. 4 and then flare outward the upper end of the outer ylinder 3 underneath the shoulder.2, the cork 7 closely filling the space between the lower end of the device and the surrounding wall of the neck. \Vith the preferred form when the bottle is inverted the cap 9 will drop away'from the conduit 8 as shown in Fig. 2 allowing the contents of the bottle to pass through the conduit openings 10 and the passage between the inner and outer chambersS and 5 to the mouth of the bottle. Vith the bottle in upright position any liquid poured into the bottle neck will pass through the openings 10 into the inner chamber 5 pressing 011 the top of the'cap S) and being thus prevented from entering the bottle. I thus secure a construction-of closing valve for the bottle neck which is simple and easy of application and which will allow a free open passage for pouring out the contents of the bottle While absolutely preventing liquid being poured into the bottle.
In the modified form shown in Fig. 5 I dispense with the cap and carry the inner conduit 8 to a point above the openings 10. water poured into the neck of the bottle willrise 1n the space between the conduit and inner chamber 5 to a point above the openings 10 compressing the air .in the upper end of the chamber 5, and being prevented thereby from passing above the top of the conduit and into the bottle.
I claim:
1. In combination with, a bottle neck formed with an inner circumferential shoulder, an open top chamber flared at its outer end underneath said shoulder, a closed top inner chamber extending-through the bot tom of said outer chamber 'andeommuiiicating with the-interior of the bottle, and a conduit secured in the lower end of said chamber and interspaced at its upper end from said chamber, said-inner chamberbeing formed with side openings.
2. ln'combination with a bottle neck, an open top chamber secured therein, an inner closed top chamber of uniform diameter extending. through the bottom of said outer chamber and communicating with the interiorof the bottle, said inner chamber be ing formed with side openings, and a conlower end of's'aid inner chamber, said conduit terminating short of the upper end of said inner-chamber and being interspaced from the side Wall of said chamber.
3. In combination with a bottle neck formed with an interior shoulder, an open top chamber fitted within said, neck below said shoulder, a closed top inner chamber extending through the bottom of said outer chamber and communicating with the interior of the bottle, said inner chamber being formed with side openings, and a valve slidably supported within said inner ehanr ber.
' 4. In combination with a bottle neck formed with an interior circumferential shoulder, an open top chamber fitted in said neck below said shoulder, an inner closed top chamber extending through the bottom of said outer chamber and communicating with the interior of the bottle, the inner chamber being provided with side openings, a conduit Within the lower end of said inner chamber interspaced at its outer end from said chamber, and a valve for said conduit.
5. In combinationqvith a bottle neck, an
open top chamber secured therein, an inner closed top chamber extending through the bottom of said outer chamber and communieating with the interior of the bottle, a conduit in the lower end of said inner chamber interspaced at its up )er end from said chamber, and a cap slidab ly covering said conduit.
(5. ln eon'ibination with a bottle neck formed with an inner cireumtcrential shouL der, an open top chamber flared at its upper end underneath said shoulder, a closed top inner chai'i'iber extending through the lower end of said outer chamber and eomn'nmirating with the interior of the bottle, a conduit secured in the lower end oi said inner chanr her and interspaced at its upper end from the side wall of said chamber, said inner chamber being formed with side openings and a rap stidably covering said conduit.
in testimony whereof I aiiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
