SELF-FILLING- FOUNTAIN-PEN.

To all 'whom it may concern:

B'e it known that I, JOSEPH A. VOGEL- MANN, a citizen of the United States, residingl at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of `New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Self-Filling Fountain-Pens; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it apper- .tains to make and use .the same.

,My invention, relates to fountain pens and particularly to self-filling pens of this character.

The object of the invention is the provision of a simple and easily'operated pen which will be cheap to manufacture and which will have no joint at its forward or ink-distributing end, thus absolutely preventing leakage which otherwise might occur. l

The plunger, as shown, is provided with a pair of arcuate vslots 13 so arranged in the plunger that they may be covered by the valve plate 12. lt will be noted that the plunger is cup-shaped with its side walls extending into the ink-reservoir so that little or no room is taken up thereby and also that the plunger rod 8 is reduced along its entire length, except adjacent the plunver where it is enlarged to form the shouldber 1l. The plug 6 is provided with a knurled nut or head 14, by which the same may be unscrewed from its socket in the plug 5. As the rod 8 is secured to the plug 6 the plunger rod and valve plate turn' with respect to the plunger until the latter is engaged with the face of the plunger, at whichtime the plungerwill be moved with the plate. After the plug has been completely withdrawn from its threaded engagement with the plug 5, the plunger may be drawn up into the lnk-reservoir to thus draw in the ink from the well or other suitable source and thereby lill the ink-reservoir. It will be noticed that when the plunger is again forced forward in the ink-reservoir the reduced part 10 of the rod will slide freely through the plunger, permittmg the plate 12 to free itself therefrom and allow egress of the ink from one side of the plunger to the other.
