The invention is hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, Figure 1 is a sectional elevation of my improved producer; Fig. 2 is a similar view, illustrating certain modifications in the construction of the producer and Fig. 3 is a sectional detail view on an enlargwl scale of the construction of poker shown in Fig. 1.
In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the producer body 1 is supported preferabl by means oi'beams 2 to which the shell oi the producer is secured adjacent to its upper end. By the operation of this eccentric the receptacle would be shifted to a position to deposit the coal received from the chute, into the re ceptacle 6. By properly timing the rotation of the shaft the supply of coal delivered to the producer can be maintained at a rate uniform with the combustion of the coal in the producer. The lower end of the body of the producer extends down into a basin 12 adapted to contain water to seal the lower end of the producer. This basin, in the construction shown in Fig. l, is rotatably supported by any suitable means, preferably by rollers 13.
A poker 1 1 is carried by the basin 12 in such position that its upper end will extend up a suitable distance into the body of'the producer 1. It is preferred that the poker should extend up distance suliicient'to prevent an agglomeration of the highly heated ashes or unconsumed elements of the fuel, or to break such agglomeration which may occur. The melting or softening of the material, which when melted will form the clinker, undoubtedly occurs at the hottest part of-a producer, and the solidification to clinker forms below that point, and where the heated materials will be subjected to. the cooling efi'ecls of the blast. In the construction Shown in Fig. l the poker is supported by the basin in a position eccentric to the axis of the producer and to the axis c. rotation of the basin. \Vhile being carried around by the basin, the poker is shifted so that the portion within the producer will move in a (lircction at an angle to the direction in which it is carried by the basin. \Vhile not limiting the invention in regard to the character of movement of the portion of the poker within the producer, it is preferred that each portion sh uld move in. the arc of' acircle having its center eccentric to the orbit of thepokcr around the axis of the prod ucer. 1n the construction shown in Fig. l the lower end of the poker extends down through a boss formed on the basin 12 and to its lower end is'sccurcd a pinion 16 adapted to iulcrmesh with a circular rack 17 formed in the inner peri )hery of the annular plate 18 supporting the basin. A groove 36 is formed in one face of this disk and is connected to the pipe leading to the poker. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, provision is made forthe rotation of the producer body itself, while the basin and the top plate 3 remain stationary. -As shown the top plate is made independent of the pro ducer body, but a water-sealed joint 23 is formed between the top and the body. The body of the producer supported upon posts 24, preferably through the medium of rollers 25 on which rests a flange 26 secured to the producer body. While the body may be rotated by any suitable means, it is preferred to form teeth in the outer periphery of the flange 26, with which teeth a driven pinion 27 will engage. As before stated the basin 12 in this construction is stationary and a bevel pinion 28 is secured to the lower end of the poker, said pinion intermeshing with a corresponding pinion on the shaft 29, which may be driven from the same shaft of the pinion 27 or independent thereof. in this construction the body of the producer is carried around the poker while the portion of the latter within the producer is caused to move in direction at an angle to.

In lieu of the construction shown in Fig. 1 for effecting the automatic feed of the coal to the producer, a rotatable receptacle 7* is mounted in the chamber 6, said receptacle being rotated by the shaft 30. The movement of the bell to permit the coal to drop into the producer is effected by means of an eccentric 31 on the shaft 30, having its strap 32 connected to the lever 5;.
sas es It is preferred to form screw threads on the lower portion of the poker which will tend to force the ashes up away from the hearing of the lower end of the poker in the basin and the lower portion oi. the threaded part is formed with a lateral extension 33, which will tend to sweep the ashes out away from the poker and toward the vertical wall of the basin, thus facilitating the removal. of the ashes from the latter and preventing them banking up around the blast device;
in order to protect the bearing oi. the poker from ashes, a cone-shaped shield 35) may be secured to the basin and extend up around the poker to a point above the level of the vater in the basin, and an annular apron 40 is secured to the poker above the shield andextends down around the shield. \Vhile itis believed that the shield and apron will exclude all ashes from around the bearing of the poker one or more open ings 11 may be formed through the bottom of the basin within the shield.
As the upper portion of the poker, espc cially that part within the hottest zone more rapidly destroyed provision is made for the renewal of the upper portion, which is separable from the lower portion. A suitable construction for this purpose is shown in Fig. 3, and consists in enlarging the upper end of the lower portion of the poker for the reception of a nipple 42 on the movable section. This nipple fits loosely in the socket in the lower portion, and has a curved seat therein so as to maintain a tight joint and prevent the escape of any material amount of coolin fluid. The removable section is provided with a flange i3 above the nipple, said flange having an angular recess in its underside for the reception of a similarly shaped boss or projection. 44 on the lower portion of the poker.
When it is desired to renew the poker, the fuel is allowed to burn down suiiiciently for to permit of the fuel being shoved aside to uncover the point of junction between the two sections. The worn-out section then drawn up through an opening i5 in the top plate and a new section in position. It is preferred to form a thread 46 on the removable section, of such a pitch as to :torcc the fuel or ashes upward away from the joint between the sections. The downward thrust due to the action of the thread on the ashes will tend to hold the two sections of the oker tightly together.
. 1 here the cooling fluid is discharged through a port 48 from the lower'end of a vertically arranged poker, air bubbles are apt to form in the upper ends of the poker, preventing the cooling" fluid from contact therewith. In order to overcome this dithculty a second tube 4:7 is arranged in the poker and extends to a point closely adjacent to the upper end oi the chamber in the the producer, and means for poker. This pipe will serve not only for the escape of air but also as an auxiliary outlet for the cooling fluid.
I claim herein as my invention: 1. A gas producer having in combination a body portion, a poker projecting upwardly into the body portion, means for moving one of said parts around the axis of the produccr, and means for introducing air within the producer, the poker extending above the point of entrance of the air.
2. A gas producer having in combination a body portion, a poker projecting upwardly into the body of the producer, means for moving one of said parts around the axis of shifting the portion of the poker Within the producer in a direction at an angle tothe circle described y the moving part. 1

A gas producer having in combination a body portlon, a poker pro ecting upwardly into the body of the producer, means for moving one of said parts around the axis of the producer, and means for causing a portion of the poker within the producer to move in the arc of a circle eccentric to the axis of the producer:
4. A gas producer having in combination a body portion, a bent poker projecting upwardly into the body of the producer, means for moving one of the parts around the axis of the producer and means for rotating the poker on the axis of the lower portion.

6. A gas producer having in combination therewith a'poker provided with a detachable section removable Without disturbing the other portion of the oker when the latter is in position withinthe producer.

A gas producer having in combination a hollow poker having an upward inclination into the body of the producer and pr vided with a main outlet for the cooling fluid located at a point distant from the'inner end of the poker, means for introducing a cooling fluid into the poker, and an auxiliary discharge pipe having its inlet opening located at a point adjacent to theinner end of the cavity in the poker.
