Be it known that I, HERBERT WHITTIER NIoHoLEs, a citizen of the United States, residin at Atlanta, in the county of Fulton and tate of Georgia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pipes; and

I do declare the following to be a full, clear,

and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

This invention relates to improvements in The object of the invention is to provide a 5 tobacco pipe having a bowl open at itslower end whereby the bowl may be readily cleaned, and having a: removable cap to close said open lower end.

A further object is to provide a pipe having means arranged in its bowl to prevent the inner end of the passage through the stem from becoming clogged up.

With theseand other objects in view, the

invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangeme'ntof parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.

In the accom anying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical ongitudinal sectional view through a pipe constructed in accordance with the invention; Fig. 2 is a detail perspective view of the combined cap and perforated tobacco supporting disk removed from the pipe; and Fig. 3 is a vertical longitudinal sectional view of the pipe showing a modified form of the invention. Referring more particularly to the drawings 1 denotes a pipe, the bowl 2 of which is provided in its lower end with a threaded opening 3 in which is adapted to be screwed a closing cap 4, which is preferably formed of a non-heat conducting material and in which is preferably arranged an asbestos mat 5 to more effectually prevent the cap from becoming heated when the pipe is in use.
