PLOW.

HENRY H. JULICH, OF MOUNT HO?E, WISCONSIN.
PLOW.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY H. Jnmcn, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Mount Hope, in the county of Grant and State of Wisconsin, have invented a new and lmproved Plow, of which the following is and exact description.
This invention relates to improvements in plows. 7
Among the principal objects of my invention is to provide a share which may be readily and quickly detached from the plow, and as readily and quir xly replaced, thereby permitting the operator to separate the part of the implement which requires sharpening, and to carry'the same to the forge or blacksmith shop.
teierence is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming fication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a perspective view of a plow constructed in accordance with my invention; Fig. 2 is an isometric. perspective of the plow, the land side being tilted up to give a view or" the back of the inoldboard; Fig. 3 is a detail view in isometric perspective of the nioldboard and plate/for attaching the share; Fig. is a side view from the back of the share; Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 55 in Fig. 2; Fig. o is a sectional view of the share taken on the line 6-43 in Fig. 4; and Fig. 7 is a sectional view of the share taken on the line ?7 in Fig. i.
in the drawings, A indicates the mold board of the plow, and is of the usual construction. To the back of the nioldboard is secured either by riveting or by welding, a plate B which is of'the same form that part of the moldboard to which it is secured. In some instances I may dispense with the plate B and give to the nioldboard an offset which will'extend down behind the share, as does the plate B in the present instance. The inoldboard in the present instance is securely braced to the landside C by means of the brace D. The landside is offset at the forward end, as shown at C in Figs. 2 and 3, to'receive tne land side E of the share E. In the forward end C of the land side C is formed a slot F. The moldboard and land side 0 are secured to the handles G and plow beam H as in the usu .1 construction.
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed March 8, 1909.
a part of this sp'eci-- Patented Nov. 9, 1909. Serial No. 482,111.
The invention primarily consists in providing in the lower edge of the plate B a series of angular slots 1, opening upward froix the lower edge of the plate and having lateral and rearward extensions, as shown, and in providing the slot F in the forward end C of the land side C. the usual form, but is provided with headed extensions K, and at its point E at the land side 01 said point, with a headed exlension K, said extensions being adapted respectively to extend into the slots 1 and F. The extension K is mounted to turn in the point E, that when said extension reaches the inner extremity of the slot i said extension may be turned across said slot, and thus fasten the landsidc C to the share E. The plate B is further provided with a flat spring detent or latch L, which is pivotallv mounted at M and has a hand hold N. he detent has a lip 0 formed by bending the spring upon itself, and the lip O is of such width that when the extensions K are seated within the lateral extensions of the slots I and at the rear thereof, the lip 0 will fall behind the extensions into the slot I to fill the remainder of the said slot and thereby preventthe extension K from being moved. The moldboard A, land side C and share E being 'thus constructed, the operation of attaching the share to the plow is as follows: The extensions K are inserted in the vertical extensions of the slots I until the shanks of the extensions K strike against the upper horizontal wall of the lateral extensions of the slots 1. When the extensions K on the moldboard side of the share are in this position, the extension K on the land side of the share is opposite the slot F on the land side C. The share is now pushed rearward, forcing the extensions K along the horizontal extensions of the slots I and the extension K into the slot F, until the said extensions reach the ends of the slots. The spring detent L is now turned until the lip O falls into the slot I behind one of the extensions K, to prevent the withdrawal of the said extension. By thus locking in position one of the extensions K, it will be observed that all of the extensions are held firmly in position in the slots in which they are seated. In this position the share is firmly secured on the plow. \Vhen now it is desired to remove the share from the-plow, the sprin detent L is raised by the hand hold N anti the lip O is lifted out of the slot 1, and the The share E is of.
detent' is then swung to one side and released, 5 to rest against the back of the plate The share is new free to be drawn forward, l the extensions K traveling along the horil zontal ('XiillSlOl'lS of the slots I until opposite I the vertical extension of the said slots-I and until the extension K is outtof engagement with the slot l The share is then drawn tfiownward until the extensions K pass out ot' the slots 1, whereupon the share is entirely l'tllttH'Qtl from the plow. 1
it will be seen that the above-described operations are easily and quickly made. No tool has been used, nor has any bolt been unscrewed or screwed with the attendant risk of damaging screw threads or jamming of the sam With a plow thus constructed, it is pov ihle to separate the share from the plow structure so quickly that the share can be more often retrieved and sharpened or replaced by sharpened shares, thus facilitating-to a very large extent the operation of plow in t Having thus described my invention, I elaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent: 1. A plow comprising a *moldboard, a]
share to match said moldboard, means for locking the said share to said moldboard, embodying a sliding member, and a spring retained key to hold the said sliding meml')0[ in locked position.
2. A plow comprising a moldboard, a
share to match said moldboard, means for locking the said share to said moldboard, embodying a sliding member, a plurality of open ended bayonet slots to receive and hold said sliding member, and a spring seated dotent adapted to seat behind said sliding member to hold the same in said slots.
3. A. plow comprising a moldboard having a se 'ies of open ended horizontal slots, a share to match said moldboard and having a series of n'ojections adapted to be SQCUITd in the said slots by a sliding; engagement,
and a key to hold the said share in its se cured position by closing one of said slots.
In testimonyavliereof I. have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
