To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, DOMENICK SACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Vandergrift Heights, in the county of Vestuioreland and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inv Boot or Shoe Uppers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to an improved blank to be utilized in. the formation of the upper portion of boots or shoes of a peculiar style, the leather, or other material used, being stamped out or cut approximately as shown in Figure 2, the entire upper being in one piece, and when properly folded, as hereinafter described, will have only two sewed seams. which will be located between the toe and instep.

.\.nother novel feature is the flap or tongue, constituting an integral part of the blank, by means of which a fastening means is provided at or near the heel.

Fig. l of the drawing illustrates a completed boot after being shaped and sewed. Fig. 2 shows the blank after being shaped ready for the forming process.

Throughout the several views the letters A, A, A A are the difi'erent divisions of the Whole or body portion of the blank cut to form the necessary over-lapping and contacting sections. The rear lower flap A is first bent forward toward the toe port-ion A the dotted line ab representing the rear or heel line of the boot or shoe, the point c registering at cl, and the point e at f; where they are suitably sewed together. The flap A is next folded down over the edges of the flap A the line from cl to g overlapping the line from c to it, thus forming the toe portion. All the sewing that will be necessary is along these aforesaid lines. The rear portion j of the upper section A is next brought forward toward the front section A, and the latter portion is left free to be folded backward over the said portion j, thus completing the formation of the upper. The

flap j carries a series of buttons or other fastening means, and the front flap A is provided with a plurality of button holes 70 to register therewith. This said front flap A has in connection therewith a tongue portion m which is provided with a button hole or other means adapted to engage with a button or like fastening means a secured to the heel portion of the said flap A The sole of the boot or shoe will be joined in the usual well known manner to the foregoing described upper, and be united therewith on the bottom line extending from g to it; said two points meeting as shown in Fig. 1.

The form shown in Fig. 1 of the drawing consists of the usual construction of a shoe, but by simply adding to the stock in the upper portion of the blank, and sewing at the points where buttons are shown, a hoot construction may be provided.

Realizing that certain changes can be made in the form of blank shown I do not limit myself to the exactconfiguration as illustrated in Fig. 2, and reserve the privilege of making modifications therein without departing from the original idea involved.

What I claim and desire to have protected by Letters Patent, is

In a blank for the formation of boots or shoes consist-ing of a single piece of material involving four distinct co-acting members A, A, A and A the heel portion A being detached from the upper A by means of an approximately right angled slit ending at a forming the flap j as an integral part of the upper A, and providing a bending line a-b,' a continuous slit d to 9 forming the toe piece A and securing frontflap A involving a fastening tongue member m: substantially as described and shown.
