Application led February 1:1, 1907. SerialNo. 3512238.
lconiparatively cheap to manufacture, and
which willihold the glass of a glass-roo1tI without any liability of it@l breaking due to `unequal expansion ot' the parts.
In the drawings l have illuStrated oneembodimeut ot' my invention; and Figure 1 is: n sectional view iu perspective through a saslrhar embodyingI my invention; lFig. 2 is a section on the line .Q1-er. Fig. 1; Fig. Il .shows a. ditterent form ot the invention.
The Sash-bar comprisee a body member 3, which is preferably of iron, on which the glass panes 4, 5, rest, and the parting mem ber t, which is i `cferably of wood. and which rests on :nifl is secured to the body member as shown in the drawings. L
'lhe body member 3 is made with-the head T having a substantially Hat surface. on which the parting member rests. with the web S and with the two flanges t) at its lower edge which form with the web gutters which carry ott' condensation water that. collects therein. ln the embodiment of the invention shown in Fig. 1, the parting strip (3 is shown as having associated therewith two flanges 10" on which the glass 4 rests, a tight joint between the glass and flanges heilig made by putty 11 in the usual manner. The. flanges or rests 1()` may either-'be integral with the parting strip (i, or separate therefrom, and they may be made of wood or even ,of felt or some. similar material. ln Fig. 3 I have shown the latter `construction wherein the strip of felt l2 is placed onI top ot the head T and between lsaid head and the parting strip tl. the edges of said strip forming the rest. for the glass 4, 5. The glass is shown as helft in place by a suitable Clip 14 which emlatent is braces the parting Strip and is provided with two feet 15, 16 both of which are preferably resilient. I prefer to use one of these clamps at the point wherethe adjacent sections of glass overlap cach other, and the foot 15 is made a little longer than the foot 16, so that thetormer foot 15 may rest on the lower pane ot' glass l while the foot 16 rests n the upper pane of glass. ln this way the feetv 15 Jorm stops against which the lower edges .of the upper panes 5 rest thereby to hold them in ilace. Both the feet. 15, 16, are made resilient to permit the glass to yield slightly without any danger of breaking, if moisture which gathers under the panes should become frozen. With this construction the feet 1G serve, to hold the upper panes in place, while the feet 15 serve not only to hold the lower panes in place butl t'hev also act as stops t'or the u )per anes.
ach clip 14 may be seeurct. to tie part'I ing strip in any suitable way, and I have" herein shown for this purpose, a bolt 20 which may extend through the clip and part- 75 ing` strip into the body member 3, and thus serve both to hold the clip to ,the parting strip and the latter to the body member.
Having described my invention what claim ae new and desire to Cecure by Letters H80 1n a sash bar construction, the coinbime; tion with a metal body 'member presentingl a web having at its upper edge a head pro l vided with a tlat top eurface and having at .55 its lower edge laterally-extending flanges which torni gutters. of a wooden parting l member resting on the tlat top surface of"- Saidliead and lhaving at its lower edge lat-1` crally-extendinw. glass-receiving flanges, thol under Jface of Said lflanges occupying they `same plane as the under face of the parting member. and a clip embracing the parting;` member and provided with feet to rest on thc glass. 559,5 ln testimony whereof, l have Signed myjname to this specification, in the presencel ofl two subscribing witnesses. l JAMES F. M. FARQUIIAR. 5g Witnesses l Lotus (l. Siurrn, len'rHA F. Herrera.
