Description

lW, P. OOBEDESH,
GAS BURNER.
-APPLIOATION FILED 00131, 190BA Patented. NOV. 2, 1909.
i i A M y I! l PATENT FFXQE WARD F. COBEDESH, OF SALEM, OHIO.
GAS-BURNER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
atented Nov. 2, 19.69..
4Appleman mea october si, was'. serial No. 460.9147.
To all whom it may concern;
le it known that I, WARD F. COBEDESH, aV citizen of the United States, residing at Saloin7 in the county of Columbiana and Statev of Ohio, have invented certain new and uselul Improvements in Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification, reference being had lo the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to improvements in 'gas burners and particularly to improve-V ments in gas burners for burning natural gas. f
An object. of my invention. is to .provide a gas burner I" the class just described in which the llame will not blow out and which will be adapted for use in producing a heatin` llame, such as the flame used in 'blazing and soldering. f
Another object of in y invention lis to provide a gas burner in which the arrangement of parte may he so lnotlilied as to permit a change from burning natural gas to burning artificial gas.
ln the drawings illustrating the principle of my invent-ion and the best mode now known to me ot applying that principle, Figure'l is a central vertical section off my ner.' gas burner; and 2, anti are sections on `the lines A-q Bf-l anfi CMC of l, respectively.

The upper parl ol' the Hinalhhore airs onnertion is screwed pipe b' extends slightly above the level of the .series of large holes a and lies just he!- low the lowerinost eet of' smaller holes o.
The upper end m of the burner-pipe fm, is contracted somewhat in diameter in order to concentrate the flame; and upon the outside oi" the bLnner-pipe 1li there is mounted tubular slide y; by moving which theA holes n may loe covered and uncovered, as may also the hole?2 o, if fleeired. Thus, by adjusting the tubular slide y the flow of air through these holes may be regulated. When natural gas under high pressure is being need, 'the holes nv will he left uncovered, asis inrlicaterl hy the fuliline position of the slide p in Fifi. l; but when artilicial gas ienseti, the slide p a .sul'licientby to make the lloiiLoai'r-throngh these holes; corr spenti to the reducer?. pressure of the artificial gas, is ihicated by the flotten-line position of the slide p in Fig. l. Farther, when artificial gas is used,
