This invention relates to the type bui ac-l tions of typewritin v machines and its object is to .save space amlhat thc saine time have ii quick. steady, easy action and durable type har bearing. ln attaining` this object, however. l employ certain novel features of construction which are both simple and economical and being very compact my construction is especially useful for the sti-called visible typt-writing machines where there is but a part of a circle or segment. for all the type bar joints.

t is one of the objects also of niv iiivention to provide certain means by w ich the type hars will be. kept tight in the joints und in case of wear, which there must be, all play or side motion will be taken up bv swings und screws at the ext-renie ends of the segmeut.

It is still another object of ni invention to have'tlic bars removable so tli'nt when it lwcomes necessary to change u type-bar for en vf'i'eason itmuv be done without much trouble. l have a so provided means for reta'liin'g the balls in the groovcd track in the tvpe hars-so that the ty ie bars may be removed with no danger o the balls droppin f out. of their place. the t pe-bars, balls, ain cone-steps being fastei together b v a rivet through holes in the center of the cone-steps.

Another object of my invention is to have a seomeut that is easily and clieaplv 'assembled uml without the use of screws in the type bar hangers which in prior constructions. often work loose from the 'ur by the stroke oflhe type har, or of the s iift of the segment. when that form of shift is used.

.\nother oh'oct is to have a type har hanger that will not occupy much space. allowing more space for the type hars.

Further objects and advantages of the iuveniion will appear in the course. ol the suhjoined deiwriptiou. und the novelty will be defined b v the annexed claims.
