l*for grinding grain feed land the like, and has for its object to provide certain improvements with respect to the grinding burs as well as with respect to the parts for supportingthe same, as will more fully appear from the following description and the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings,--Figure l is a central vertical sectional elevation f the mill. Figs.
2 and?) are top and bottom views of the upper or fixed bur. Fig. 4 is a top View of the bottom or moving bur. Fig. 5 is a detail in top view of the arched frame. Fig. 6 is a detail in plan of the lower frame and sills.
Referring specifically to the drawings, 1 is an arched iron frame which is cast in one piece and which has a bearing for the vertical driving shaft 3, This frame is braced at the back by a brace 16 bolted to the frame 1 at the top and to the 'wooden frame or sills 2 at the bottom. This brace gives rigidity and strength to the frame. l
4 is a cylinder having internal spiral ribs, and this is bolted to the lower frame 15 which has three arms bolted at their outerl -ends to the frame 2. Within the cylinder 4,
and upon the shaft 3 is a screw 5, with a spiral in reverse to that ofthe cylinder, and which acts to partly disintegrate the feed or material and to force the same down to the burs at the bottom of the cylinder.
The upper stationary bur is indicated at 6, and is shown in detail in Figs. 2 and 3. It i. corrugated on the under side, and has segmental openings 6a through. which .the material is fed. The loweror running bur 7 is mounted upon a squared part 9 lof the shaft 3, and this .bur acts in coperation with the bur 6, the contacting faces of the burs being corrugated to eect the grinding action. The lower bur 7 is mounted upon or supported' by a lazy bur 8, the bur 7 having lugs 7a on the under side which fit in notches in the top of the lazy bur; The squared part 9 of the main shaft ts in a socket in the top of the lazy bur, and said bur 8 has a depending journal 8a which extends through a hole in 4the bottom of the box 17 and rests in a step bearing 10. This'step bearing 1s formed in a cross bar 10a which 1s supported at one end by a bolt 13 depending from the frame'15 and having an adjusting nut 13",
and at the 'other end by a, bolt 11 which extends through the frame 15 and has a spring The purpose 11a coiled around the same. of this spring is to allow the burs to yield or spring apart inthe event that a piece of iron or other hard material shouldget in between the burs. The discharge box 17 is bolted to the under side of the 'frame 15 and has an outlet chutev14 in the side thereof.
