Description

.L- c. WILGOX & A. BURKHOLDER.
DEVICE FOR ATTAGHING WIRES T0 POSTS.
APPLICATION FILED JULY 22, 1909.

MMB-WORWWAWBG AUSTIN C. WILCOX AND ALBERT BURKHOLDER, OF CLARKSVILLE, IOWA..
DEVICE FOR ATTACHING WIRES TO POSTS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 12, 1909.
Application filed July 22, 1909. Serial No. 508,884.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, AUSTIN C. WILCOX and ALBERT BURKHOLDER, citizens of the United States, residing at Clarksville, in the county of Butler and State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Attaching Wires to Posts; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the ac companying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in devices for anchoring staples in cement posts for fastening line Wires and comprises means whereby a wooden filler adapted to receive the staple may be securely anchored and held from shrinkage or swelling.
The invention comprises various other details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specifically defined in the appended claim.
We illustrate our invention in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a series of staples held to the post. Fig. 2 is a sectional View on line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a sectional view vertically through the post and longitudinally through one of the plugs and socket members. Fig. 4 is an enlarged detail perspective view of one of the socket members which holds the staple receiving block.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawings by letter, A designates a cement post having embedded therein a series of metallic socket members B, one end of each of which is preferably contracted making an oblong opening C therein, and D is a filler, preferablyof wood, which is inserted in the socket member, before said member is flattened in the manner shown, thereby securely binding and holding the block against expansion which would have a tendency to loosen the staple to be held by the block.
E designates a staple which is driven into the block in the manner shown and adapted to receive the line wires F. The inner end of each socket member being larger than its outer member and inserted in place while the material of which it is made is in a plastic state, said socket member will be securely anchored in place.
By the provision of the means shown and described, a simple and efficient holding device is alforded whereby the staple will be held securely at all times without any danger of becoming loosened from shrinkage or from expansion of the wood in which it is held.
What we claim to be new is In combination with a cement post, a metallic socket member embedded therein, a wooden filler in said socket member, the latter having a flattened portion adapted to compress and securely hold the block in said member, and a staple engaging said filler.
In testimony whereof we hereunto affix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
