To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, Louis M. RosENBERG, a citizen of the United States, residing in New York city, borough of Brooklyn,
county of Kings, and State of New York,
my invention, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the belt body with the buckle, in closed position, attached thereto. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the buckle when open. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the other end of the belt adapted to be detachably secured to the buckle. Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line -m of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a .similar view of a slightly modified form of catch for the sw1nging element of the buckle. Fig. 6 is a top plan view of the buckle shown in Fig. 1; and Fig. 7 is a sectional view taken on the line y--y of Fig. 2.
In these drawings, l indicates the belt body or strap, and 2, the Abase of the buckle or securing member to which one end of the this base portion is formed of sheet metal having one side turned up, and the end 3,
, bent over and clenched upon the end of the strap 1, and for additional security a stud or rivet 4 is passed through a perforation in the strap 1 and base member 2, and permanently holds the said parts together. To one side vof the said base member 2, a swinging cover-plate 5, of suitable size and shape, is pivoted or hinged, as at 6, and the opposite side 7 of said cover-plate is adapted to snap over the corresponding side 8 of the base. A finger-piece or projection 9 is formed upon the side 7 of the cover-plate, by which the part can be readily manipulated. The rivet or stud member 4 is provided with an upwardly-projecting portion 10, formed preferably with a slightly enlarged head, as shown in Fig. 7.
In vthe modified form of my invention shown in Fig. 5, the side 8, of the base portion 2, is provided with an elevation 11, and the finger piece or projection 9 upon the corresponding side of the cover-plate is concave upon the under-side so as to coperate with said projection 11 and to afford means for securely holding the parts in the closed position shown in Fig. 5. The operation of my device will be readily understood from the foregoing description. The belt being adjusted about the person of the wearer, the cover-plate 5 is swung down, as shown in Fig. 2. The perforated end of the belt is then adjusted upon the top of the base-plate, as shown in Fig. 4, and the proper perforation forced over the head 10 of the stud 4. Said cover-plate 5 is then swung up and snapped in place and the belt will then be inf the condition shown in Fig. 1.
It is obvious that the cover plate 5 may have any desired ornamentation thereon and may be made in any desired outline or'configuration. It is also obvious that many other modifications and changes may be made in my invention without departing from the spirit thereof, and I do not mean to limit myself to the exact form shown and described, but
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
l. In combination with abbelt, a fastener comprising a sheet metal base portion underlying one end of the belt, said base portion being provided with side flanges lying along side the edges of the belt and with an end portion folded over onto the end of the belt, a rivet permanently connecting the base portion to the end of the belt, said rivet being provided with a projecting stud adapted to receive a perforation in the free end of the belt, and a cover plate hinged to one of the side Hanges of the base plate and adapted to overlie the head of the stud when in its closed position.
2. In combination with a belt, a fastener comprising a sheet metal base portion underlying one end of the belt, said base portion 'being provided with side flanges lying along side of the belt, a rivet permanently connecting ythe base portion to the end of the belt,
said rivet beingprovided With a projecting stud adapted to receive a perforation in the free end of the belt, and a cover plate hinged to one of the side flanges of the base plate and adapted to.over1ie the head of the stud when in its closed position.
