PUSH-BUTTON SWITCH.
Specification of Letters Patent.
I Patented Oct. 5, 1909.
Application filed April 21, 1909. Serial No. 491,862.
.Button Switch, of which thent'ollowing is a specification.
My invention relates to push button switches and particularly to indicating means therefor and comprises the novel features hereinafter set forth in the following descri tion and claims.
In t e accompanying drawings in which a switch embodyin my invention is shown, Figure l is a si e elevation of the switch; Fig. 2 is a vertical section on a larger scale of'the push button and indicating mechanism; -F1g. 3 is a plan of the push button; Fig. 4 is an inverted plan thereof; and Fig. 5 is a section of the push button mechanism on the line 55, Fig. 2.
My improved indicating means is particularly adapted to be applied to a push bgt ton switch having a ratchet mechanism ope ated by an oscillating spiral member, comprising in the form shown, a hollow push button 10 provided with a shoulder or shoulders 11 engaging in spiral depressions in a sleeve 12, the lower end of which carries a ratchet 13 cooperating with a rotary abutment 14:, the lug 15 of which is engaged by one end of the switch actuating coil spring 16. Guides 17 engaged by lugs 18 on the ring 19 which is rigid with the push -buttonlO prevent the angular movement of the latter. Consequently when the button 10 is depressed the sleeve 12 is rotated, the spring 16 tensioned and the switch mechanism actuated. A return spring 25 lifts the push button again, the sleeve 12 with ratchet 13 being simultaneously returned by their engagement therewith. The push button passes through a face plate A as usual, the latter being spaced from the insulating base B-on which'the switch mechanism is mounted, by standards C.
To actuate the indicating device which forms the subject of my invention, I connect the same with the rotary switch spindle 20.
Sleeved on this spindle and rotating there-' with, though capable of axial displacement with relation thereto,l arrange a carrier 21, on the upper end ofwhich is mounted the indicator disk 22 on which the switch positions are printed. As the indle 20 rotates, the position of the switch is shown by the indicator, the latter being visible through a perforation 23 in the top of the push button. A suitable bearing for the indicator disk is furnished by depressing a center 24 from the face of the button,- A corresponding recess 26 is formed in the disk. It is obvious that when the switch spindle 20 1o tates, the indicator 22 moves with the'same and the position of the switch may be ob served through the peep hole 23.
Changes in the details of construction will readily suggest themselves and I donot limit myself .to'the precise structure shown, but claim as my invention:
1. In a push button switch, a hollow push button and a visible indicator within the same moving with the switch spindle.
2. Ina push button switch, a hollow push button and an indicator within the same operated from the switch mechanism, said push button being perforated to afford a I peep hole through which said indicator may be observed.
3. In a push button switch, a hollow push button, a visible indicator within the same carried by a sleeve, and a switch spindle working within said sleeve but engaging the same in such manner as to prevent angular movement with relation thereto.
4. In a push button switch, a hollow push button and a visible indicator within the same operated by the switch mechanism.
5. In a push button switch, a hollow push.
button provided with a bearing on its inner surface, and a visible indicator rotated on said hearing by the switch mechanism.
.In testimony whereof I have signed my nametothis specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
