To all whom 'it may concern.'
Be it known thatI, Emo ANDERSON, a citizen of thellnited States-ot America, and residing at Bridgeport, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut have invented a certain. new and useful Improvement in Door-Switches, of which the followin is a specification.
/I 1 invention relates to electric door switches and the object of my invention is to provide a simple and eflicient operating mechanism possessing certainnovel features hereinafter described. and illustrated hy way of example, in the accompanying drawing in which,
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the switch casing showing, partially broken away, a switch mechanism embodying my invention in one form; Fig. 2 is a similar view with the switch parts in another. po-v sition; Fig. 3 is a vertical sect-ion on the line 3 3 Fig. 5; Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line 4-'4, F ig. 1; F ig. 5 is a vertical section on the line 5 5, Fig. 1; and F ig. 6 is an end elevation of the switch.
In switches of the present character it is highly\ desirable that the contact may be made and broken by a short stroke of the actuating plunger, so that the device may be actuated by the door whether or not the latteraccurately` lits its frame. A switch mechanism of this character is operative not only when the door is iirst installed and properly lits the frame, but also after the saniahas dried `out and somewhat shrunk from its original size leaving a greater space between the frame and the actuating stile of the door than existed. at the time the door was installed. To this end I provide a switch operating mechanism with plunger member, the connections from the latter to the escapcment being such that the initial Vinward and the final outward travel of the plunger serve' to operate the switch, while at the saine time the connection of the plunger to the escapement mechanism is such that the plunger is free tto travel inward until it is flush with the face plate thus per* mitting the door to be closed when the stile is flush 'with the frame.
the casing is'apertuied at one end 14 to permit the passage therethrough of an olfset 15, of an insulating block 16, carrying switch terminals 17 and connections therefrom to the binding screws 18. Securing screws 19 passing through a shoulder of the insulating block are screwed into threaded holes in the base 20.
The switch 'mechanism is carried upon a frame plate 21 of heavy sheet metal offset at the bottom to forni a securing liange 22,`and at the top to form a guide flange 23. Se-l curing screws 24 pass through the flange 22 into thebase 20 of the'casing. The switch lever 25 is pivoted at 26, to the frame 21, and the switch blades 27 are carried by the arm 28, ,which is otlset at its upper end to form a detent4 engaging iange 29. At right angles to the arm 28, a second arm 30 is formed, the free end of which travels between thestops 31- formed upon a lateral extension of the'frame plate. The rocking lever 32 is also pivoted upon the spindle 26,
and is offset at one end to form a spring en-l path of the flange 39 on the upper end of the switch lever. The flange 40 at the upper' end of the push plate engages and is.pref erably sweated to the plunger 41, and takes its downward motion from the latter, while it is returned to position by the coil spring 42 which surrounds the plunger stem. The upper end of the latter is forked to receive the pivoted trigger 43, the free end of which rests in the angle 44 of the latch. l2 and serves to transmit the inward motion of the latter to the plunger without undue friction lever and means for operating the latter In testimony whereof I have signed my from the former during the initial inward 11eme to this specification, in the presence of l0 und the inaloutward travel of said push two subscribing witnesses.
