AUXILIARY GUN-SIGHT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 5, 1909.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J OHN Forum, a citizen of the United States, residing at Colorado Springs, in the county of El Paso and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Auxiliary Gun-Sights; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in attachments for fire arms, and particularly to that class known as sights, whereby the efliciency of range is increased.
My object is to provide a simple inexpensive device, whereby an ordinary pocket fire arm of any length whatever may be transformed into an efficient target or hunting gun by the application of my device.
Referring to the accompanying drawings. Figure 1 indicates the side View of an ordinary revolver showing the sight attachment and a gun stock secured to the butt of the pistol. Fig. 2 indicates a longitudinal vertical section of the sight attachment, disclosing a flare at the under side of the connecting end. Fig. 3 shows a cross section vertical view of the point of conjuncture of the sight attachment and revolver barrel. Fig. 4 indicates a cross section vertical View of the outward end of the sight attachment. Fig. 5 indicates a side view of the sight attachment constructed with an additional rear sight, as it would appear on an automatic revolver. Fig. 6 shows a vertical longitudinal section of the sight attachment disclosing forward and rear sights.
In describing the invention in detail, references will be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which Fig. 2 is a hollow sight attachment 1 of any tempered metal, as steel, conforming internally at the point of juncture 6 with a barrel of the revolver, showing a flare 2 at the said point of juncture 6 and located at the under side of the sight attachment,
said flare adapted to permit the sight attachment to be pushed on the sight end of the revolver barrel thus allowing the sight attachment, which is preferably of smaller circumference than the revolver barrel to act as a clamp to retain itself in a fixed position; the sight attachment being secured and prevented from turning by the revolver sight 3 fitting snugly into a slot 5 of the sight attachment.
In Fig. 6 the sight attachment 1 of any tempered metal, such as steel, has its hollow cylindrical form equipped with a forward sight 7 and a rear sight 8, said forward sight being fixed, while the rear sight is adapted-to be regulated. by meansmfanset screw 9; the sight attachment conforming internally with the revolver barrel at the point of juncture 6 and adapted to act as a clamp thereon.
If preferred I may use a gun stock such as 10, to be secured on the handle of the revolver in order that it may be utilized as a rifle.
What I claim is 1. A sight attachment for firearms having a forward sight, a cylindrical portion at the opposite end of the sight adapted to fit around the end of a barrel of a firearm, the so outer end of said cylindrical portion being flared and adapted to direct spring pressure on the barrel of the firearm.
2. A hollow sight attachment for fire arms having a fixed forward sight, a flare, means for connecting said sight attachment to the barrel of an ordinary revolver, a rear extension of sight attachment, a sight on said rear extension, and means to adjust said sight.
3. A sight attachment, comprising an extension, a fixed forward sight and an adjustable rear sight, and means to operate said rear sight.
In testimony whereof I have signed my 95 name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOHN POTTER.
