To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that 1, JOHN F. Banana, a citizen of the United States, residing at Morton, in the county of Delaware and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Rail-Joints, of which the following is a specification.
Myinvention relates to improvements in rail joints, and more particularly to joints for railroad rails, beams, girders, and other like metal structural bars, the object of the invention being to provide improved means for locking the meeting ends of the rails or bars against possibility of independent movement.
A further object is to provide improve ments of this character, which will add but slight cost in the'manut'acture of rails and in position, and will most eiiectually tie the With these and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction, and combinations, and arrangements of parts as will be more fully hereinafterdescribed and pointed out in the ln-the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is a view in side elevation illustrating the application of my improvements to a railroad rail. Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is:
1. In a device of the character described, the combination with two rails or bars located end to end, and having openings or recesses in their abutting ends, which when together form an opening of approximately inverted U-shape, a locking block conforna ing in shape to said openings and located therein, and fish plates secured to the opposite sides of said rails or bars, and holding the said block against lateral movement.
2. In a device of the character described. the combination with rails having inclined ends located end to end, and having recesses in their web portions, which when together form an opening of approxiimitely inverted Ushape, a locking block conforming in shape to said opening and located therein, and fish plates secured to the opposite sides of said web portions of the rails.
