FREEBORN BEDEE, OF WELLINGTON, OHIO.
PULVERIZING-PLOW.
To alt whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FnnunonN Banen, a citizen of the United States, residing at lVellington, in the county of Lorain and State of Ohio, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Pulverizing-Plows, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in pulverizing plows, the primary object of the invention being to provide a generally improved plow, having an improved form of moldboard carrying a plurality of horizontally arranged cutter-disks, adapted to raise, cut, turn over, and disintegrate the furrow-slice at a single operation and with less friction than is required to raise and turn over the usual integral furrow-slice by the ordinary plow. The above mentioned lessening of friction or resistance offered to the plow in the plowing operation is due, primarily, to the cutting action of the cutterdisks arranged in echelon on the face of the moldboard and adapted to successively cut the furrow-slice into a plurality of longitudinal slices as the furrow-slice is being turned over by the moldboard, it being evident that each slice is turned over individually and unhampered by the other or remaining portions of the furrowslice.
lith the above mentioned ends in view, the invent-ion, in its present embodiment, consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts, hereinafter described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
Referring to the drawings, forming a part of this specification, Figure 1, is a side elevation of the improved plow constructed in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2, a top plan view of the same. Fig. 8, a rear view of one of the adjustably mounted bearingbrackets and the cutter-disk carried thereby.
Fig. 4, a similar view of a modified form of adjustable mounting for the cutter-disks. Fig. 5, a top plan view of the same.
Similar numerals of reference designate like parts throughout all the figures of the drawings.
The frame or stock of the improved plow comprises the usual curved beam 1, terminating at its rear in the usual sheth or standard 1a. The frame or stock also comprises the usual handles 2, and connected by a round 3, said handles being preferably Specification of Letters Patent.
Application led January 2S, 1909.
Patented Oct. 5, 1909.
Serial No. 474,884.
braced by means of the horizontal brace rods 4, connected to the rear of the beam 1.
The operative parts of the improved plow may comprise the usual share 5, roller-coltcr (i, and an elongated moldboard 7, and land side S.
The elongated mold -board is provided with a plurality of slot openings 9, arranged in echelon or steps from the lower rear portion to the upper front portion of the moldboard as shown most clearly in Fig. 1, of the drawings. The slot openings 9, are preferably provided with enlarged or inverted truncated terminal ends 9a, and are adapted to receive and contain a plurality of cutterdisks 10, horizontally-arranged and projecting from the face side of the moldboard as shown. The upper or most advanced cutterdisk 10a, is preferably of concavou convex form and is preferably arranged in the form of an inverted dish. The cutter-disks are carried within the slot openings by means of bearing-brackets 11, secured to the rear side of the moldboard by means of the usual plow bolts 12. As a means for providing for the horizontal inclination or adjustment of the cutter-disks within the slot openings 9, the base portions of the bearing-brackets 11, are provided with vertical guide slots 13, through which the plow-bolts 12, pass. (See Figs. 3 and 4).
As a means for projecting and retracting the several cutter-disks within the slot-openings 9, whereby the depth of the cutting or slicing action of the cutter-disk 10, may be regulated, the bearing-bracket and adjusting mechanism shown in Figs. 4, and 5, may be provided. Said bearing-bracket and adjusting mechanism comprises a bracket-rack 14, provided with guide-ways 15. The bearingbracket 11, is slidably mounted in thc guideways 15, and is pivotally connected at4 its rear to a cutter-disk adjusting lever 16, in the present instance, horizontally arranged above the bracket-rack 14, and pivotally connected at its end to a swiveled head 17, carried by a standard 18. The standard 1S, is secured to the rear of the mold by the usual plow-bolt 19. The lever 16, is provided with the usual latching bolt 20, adapted to engage with the notches 14a, of the bracket-rack 14, and is operated by the usual hand lever 21, and connecting rod Q2, in a well known manner.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood.
Having thus described my invention, without having attempted to set forth all the forms in which it may be made, or all the modes of its use, I declare that what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is,-
In a pulverizing plow, an elongated mold board provided with horizontal slot open ings having inverted truncated terminal ends and arranged in a diagonal line from
