To all whom it may concern,
Be it known that I, TIRBAN JOEDICKE, citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dust- Collectors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention has relation to improve vacuum-cleaning systems; and it consists in the novel arrangement and construction. more fully set forth in the specification ,and pointed out in the claim. y
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a combined vertical section and elevation of my improved collector; Fi 2 is a horizontal plan and section on the broken line 22 of Fig. 1: Fig. 3 is an enlarged sectional detail showing the ditterent layers of the strainer; Fi 4 is an enlarged sectional detail of the sa ety-valvc; and Fig. 5 is a cross section on line 5'5 of Fig. at.
The object of my invention is to construct a dust collector which shall phssess a durable and effective strainer for the dust-laden air passing therethrcugh; one in which the strainer shall be still and whose component parts are readily replaced; one having a dust receptacle independent of the strainer proper; and one possessing further and other advantages better apparent from a dc tailed description of the invention which is as tollows:
Referring to the drawings, C, represents an outer casing resting on legs L and having a top lid or cover T. Disposed within the casing beneath the cover an annular shelf or lodged from which depends the strainer presently to be described, a gasket ,or packing ring 2 being interposed between the sup portingtlanges of the shelf and strainer respectivcly. The strainer is composed of an out-eropenavork basket composed of strips (1, 7), intersecting each other at right angles, an inner open-work basket composed of strips a, b, the inner faces of the respective baskets being provided with wire-gauze linings or diaphragnis, or equivalent foraniinous material (Z. The upper ends of the strips a, a, are provided with outwardly bent flanges 3, td the outer series of which is bolted the annular ring 4 by which one end of the space between the baskets is closed, the bolts 5 securing said ring to the basket, likewise securing the latter to the supporting flange of the shelf 1, the packing ring 2 being likewise pierced by the bolts (Fig. 3). The opposite end of the space between the baskets is closed by a tiller block 6, the adjacent ends of the outer strips (2 projecting a suitable distance beyond said fillerblock, and being screw-threaded on the inner face for collectively engaging the outer screw-threaded surface of the dust receptacle 7 which is itself screwed to the basal flange of the casin 0 (Fig. 1). The casing provided witha safety-valve 8 controlled by a spring 9 encirclin the stem 10 thereof between the casing wal and terminal head 11 of the valve-stem.-
In the operationzof the invention a current of air is drawn through the pipes P, P and througl'i the apparatus as shown by the arrows in Fig. 1, the pipe P leading to a vacuum pump, and the pipe P leading to the suction-head of a vacuum cleaning system as well understood in the art. The dustladen air is drawn into the strainer, and in its pasr sage through the successive layers d, e, (l ofwire gauze, hair and wire gauze is cleansed of its dust and dirt, which latter is deposited at the bottom of the receptacle 7. Should the vacuum in the casing become too great so as to endanger the collapse of the Walls of the casing C, the valve 8 will yield to atmospheric pressure and tor the casing.
