ib all whom it may covwern:
Be it known that l, AXEL A. S'rnom, a citizen of the United States, residing at Austin, in the county of Cook and b'tabeof Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Switch-Stands, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in the class of switch-stands in which the throwing of the switch 'is controlled by a weighted lever connecte with it through the stand and ada ted to be turned through an arc of a circ e in a vertical plane to operate the switch.
Referring to the accompanying drawings- Figure 11 is a plan view illustrating a switchstand embodying my invention and showing, by dotted representation, the mechanism housed' in the casing of the stand and the position of the'parts opposite thaty denoted by the full-line representation of the `weighted lever. Fig. 2 is a view like that presented in Fig. 1, but withlthe crownportion of the casing cut away to disclose the mechanism housed within it. Fig. 3 is a View showing the switch-stand in end elevation. Figs. 4 and 5 are sections taken, res ectively, on the lilies 4 and 5 in Fig. l an viewed as indicated by arrows. Fig. G is a View, in the nature of a diagram, show in the shape of the cam-slot in the casing, with which the weighted lever coperates for operating the switch; and Fig. 7 is a similar View of the same in a modified forni. The casing 8 comprises a crown-portion 9 of generally rounded sha l e, with laterallyextending Wings 10, l0 a apted to seat on head-blocks 11, and with yoke-like extensions l2 at right-angles tou the Wings, for supporting a reciprocating switch-bar, preferably through the medium of a metal bal 13 extending between the yokes and bolted thereto through its end-portions. VOn this bar is imposedthe reciprocating switch-bar 14, one end of which is adapted to have pivotally joined to it the connecting-bar (indicated at C in Fig. 1) which links the switch to the operating mechanism of the stand.
A cam-slot 15 is formed in the crown Si to extend at a suitable inclination between the relatively-odset wings 10 and of the shape represented in Fi'. 6 or that represented in Fig. 7, which atter differs from the former in terminating in straight end- Speccation of Letters Patent.

sections lo', for the purpose hereinafter es" planed. Similar bearinghars 1T, 1"( surniount, in spaced relation, and are riveted to the bar 14 to bepractically integral there with, and they terminate at their inner end` in relatively-Mining socket-heads 18 .term ing bearings for the trunnion-ends ot .i
of round cross-section, is rotatably nominee..
to work in the cam-slot, a beveled antitrr tion roller 24.
The shape and length of the earn-slot 1f are such as to cause turning of the lever on its fulcrum from the posltion shown h5 its full-line representation to that repro sented by dotted lines, or .in the contrary dlrection, to etl'cct a complete throw of the swlteh for setting it one way or the other;
and at the ends of the throw of the Jever" 1t bears against the suitably-inclined shout der-portions of the seatingwiugs lo. provided as stops for the lever. This` rf sult is due to `the action of the caluslo against thelever, through the lnedinin ot the roller 24, of moving the har 11 lengthwise through the guidlng yokes 12 on its. support 13.
As thecanbslot' is shown in Fig. n n adapts the switch-stand to be operated trein the switch by the wheels of a. car moving c.
`the switch is resisted by the resultan'. nu
pingement of the roller against a purper dicular Wall of a section 16 of the canislot.
VVl'leI'e a tar et Q5 (Fig. 1), lump or other form of sema lore is provided to cooperate with the swite i-operating mechanisn'i, it 1n ay be supported in a usual manner on a vertical rotary spindle Q6, which in the present case ie shown to be jonrnaled in a bearing' 2T rising from the casing 8 and carrying on its lower end a crank-arrn 28, in which is i journaled one end of a crank 29 having its ogposite end journaled in a bearing 30 in the a jacent socketfhead 18. This double-crank ponnection with the bar 14 of the target rotates the latter through a quarter-turn (as indicated in'Fig. l) each time the switch wlngs projecting from opposite sides in olfi set relation to each other, with a camslot in the crown-portion inclinin between said wings, switch-throwing rnec anism in the Casin and an operating lever connected with said mechanism andV actuated by ite` movement through said slot to move said mechanism in the direction for throwing a switch.
2. In a switch-stand, the combination of a. cesing comprising a crown-portion havin wings projecting from opposite sides in o )i In presence of` i Het relation to each other, with a czuneslot in ;the crown-portion inclining between said Winge and stop-forming levelseate on the wings :it the ends of Said lslot, switclrthrowing mechanism in the casing, und :in operating lever connected with said mechanism l und carrying un anti-friction roller eng'ng ing the cam-slot to actuate the lever by its movement through said slot to move said mechanism in the direction for throwing n switch.
3.l In a switchetundhe combination of :1
l cnsmg comprising :1 crown-portion h'nving 40 Wings projecting from opposlte sides in otrf set relation to each other, with a cam-slot in the crown-portion extending between said Wings, a switclrbar support at the casing-base,.-a switch-bar longitudinally movi nble on said support, und :m operating lever i connected with said switch-bar for moving it by the throw of the lever through the cam-slot.
