As a further means of providing for such adjustment of the shoe and regulatingthe cut, I mount a shelf 36 at the front of the machine upon which the operator may rest the sole of the shoe. This shelf is hinged at 37 and lies at an angle with respect to the contacting surfaces of the two rolls; being adjustably Vheld in the raised or lowered positions by set screws 38. This structure serves to vary the angle at which the cut is made, and thereby 'j regulates the width of` the material left on the shoe.
In addition to the usefulness of my machine for trimming the soles of shoes, it may be employed as a randing machinel In Fig. S, I have shown a rand cutting knife 39 disposed beneath the guiding wheel 2, and having its cuttin ed e in line with the center of rotation o sai wheel. This figure also shows a section of a shoe in position for the knife to remove the rand from the edge of the sole.
, By preference the operating and adjustable parts of the machine are inclosed by the casin 4:0.
1. The combination, in a sole trimming machine, of a feed Wheel, means for driving the same, a guide wheel for the work havin an edge to engage ,the sole being trimme and a face for engagement by the body of the shoe carrying such sole whereby the sole ma be trimmed to the same contour as said bo y, means for Idrivin said guide wheel from the means for driving the feed Wheel, independently operated means for imparting vertical movement to both of said wheels, and a knife blade having its broad face at ri ht angles to the axis of rotation of said Weels and its cutting edge in line with such axis.
2. The combination, in a sole trimming machine, of a feed wheel, means for driving the same, a guidewvheel having an edge to elpgage the so e being trimmed and a face for engagement by the body of the shoe carryin such sole whereby the sole may be trimme to the same contour as said body, means for driving said wheel from the means for driving the feed wheel, a knife dis osed behind and having its cutting ed e in ine with the axis of rotation of said W eels, independent means for imparting vertical movement to the carriers for both of said wheels to per-` mit insertion of the work, and adjustable means for maintaining said carriers for the wheels in the proper relative ositions.
3. In a sole trlmming mac ne, the combination of a feed wheel, a'shaft ivotallx hung for carr ing the same, mea or driv ing said sha t, a guiding. wh
thereby, a shaft therefor supported by said carrying said wheel, a pivotall mounted su ort for said wheel, means W ereby said gul ing wheel is driven from the feed Wheel shaft, means connecting the support for said guiding wheel to the eed'wheel shaft, and a knife disposed'behind and having its cutting edge inline with the axis of rotation of sai wheels.
4. In a sole trimming machine, the combination of a feed wheel, a shaft pivotally hung .for carrying the same, means for driving said shaft, a guiding wheel, a shaft carrying said Wheel, means whereby said guidin wheel is driven from the feed Wheel shaft, a pivotally mounted support for said guiding wheel shaft, means for adjustably mounting the guiding wheel shaft in said support, means for adjusting said support, a knife coacting with said Wheels, and means connecting the support for said guiding wheel shaft to the feed wheel shaft.
5. The combination, in a sole trimming machine, of a frame, a feed wheel for the Work, a guide wheel for the work, supporting means for said wheels carried by said frame, means for driving said wheels 1n unson, the guide wheel being driven from the feed wheel driving means, means for imparting vertical movement to each of said wheels independently, of each other, and a knife disposed below the ide wheel and havin its cutting edge in line with the center of rotation of said wheels and lyin across the space between the periphera edges of said .wheels to engage the sole moved thereby.

The combination, in a sole trimmin machine, of a frame, a feed wheel carrie thereby, a shaft therefor pivotally su ported in said framemeans for drivin sai shaft means for impartin indepen ent 'verticai movement to the en of said shaft, a guide wheel, a shaft carr in the Same, earin to d rive said guide w ee from the eed W eel shaft, adjustable means for supporting said guide Wheel shaft whereby the guide wheel may be moved vertically away from the feed wheel, resilient means connectin the support for said guide wheel to the eed wheel shaft anda knife disposed behind said whees and having its cutting edge in line u with the axis of rotation of the same.
