UNITED sTATEs PATENT OFFICE.-
GEORGE F. ALLEN,
or TORONTO, ONTARIO, CANADA, ssIeNoR T EDWARD a. HOYT, or
s'r. Louis, m-rssouar.
METALLIC PRODUCT.
No Drawing.
Patented Sept. 7, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE FRANKLIN ALLEN, a' citizen of the United States .of America, residing at the city of Toronto, in
the Dominion of Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in'Metallic Products, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
My invention relates to a metallic product comprising an iron or steel body to which is applied a coating that serves to protect the body and also to provide a surface around the body and which will afford resistance to the action of acids to a much greater degree than the iron or steel body, which may be termed the core of the metallic product.
In producing my metallic product I first make an alloy in which there is from onefourth of one per cent. to three per cent. of
zinc and the balance of lead. This alloy is applied to the iron or steel body which is toserve as the core of my metallic product in such manner as to furnish a coating around said body in which the lead and zinc are present. I then apply to the coated iron body a second coating of zinc, which may be applied by the well known and usual galvanizing process. After the iron or steel body has been coated in the manner previously described, I apply another coating thereto for the purpose of increasing the incasement of the iron or steel body, this last mentioned coating com rising a terne metal alloy of from ten to fifty per cent. tin, and
the balance of lead. The coatings herein described are preferably applied by dipping bath of the alloys of lead and zinc, the zinc and the terne metal alloy consisting of tin and lead.
I claim': 1. A metallic product, consisting of an iron or steel body having a coating comprising an alloy of lead and zinc applied combinedly and directly to the body.
2. A metallic product, consisting of an iron or steel body, having a coatin comprising an alloy of lead and zinc applie combinedly and directly to the body, and a coating of zinc over the first mentioned coating.
3. A metallic product, consisting of an iron or steel body having a coating thereon, comprising an alloy of from one-fourth of one per cent. to three per cent. of zinc, and the balance of lead applied combinedly and directly to the body.
. 4. A metallic product, consisting of an iron or steel 'body having a coating thereon,
comprising an alloy of from one-fourth of one per cent. to three per cent. of zinc and the balance of lead applied combinedly and directly to the bod and a coating of zinc over said first mentioned coating.
5. A metallic product, consisting of an iron or steel body having a coating thereon, comprising an alloy of lead and zinc, a coating of zinc over the first mentioned coatmg. and a final coating comprising an alloy of tin and lead.
6. A metallic product, consisting of an iron or steel body having a coating thereon, comprising an alloy of lead and zinc, a coating of zinc over the first mentioned coating and a final coating compris ng an alloy of from ten'to fifty per cent. of tin and the bal- GEORGE F. ALLEN. In thepresence of- J. A. MCANDREW, RoB'r. KIDNEY.
