UNITED sTATE v FRED o. Bnser n To all whom qltmay concern: I Be it known that I, Fnnn citizen of the United States, residingJatfSt; Louis, State of Missouri, have invented cerf tain new and useful Improvements"inj MetalY Boxes, of which the followingisa full, elear," and exact description, reference being"had todrawings, forming apart the accompanying hereof. I a
My invention has relation toimprove ments in metallic boxes; andiitf'consistsin the novel construction ofbox more" fully set forth in the'specification and pointedbut in the claims. In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form of my box,
2 is a vertical cross-section on the line 2- -2 of Fig. 1 Fig. 3 is a perspective detail with lid swung open showing mannerof securingp the hinge in position; and Fig, ii' sjfiajasectional detail enlarged showing mannerfof; folding the sheets ofthe lid and wallsflad-cl jacent thereto.
The object of my inventionlis'to construct" a metallic box for the storing of. valuables" which shall bestrong, durable and are proof; one which can be put together without the use of rivets, screws, or similar securing devices; one whose parts can be readily assembled 1n the course of construca tlon, andone possessing further and Aether advantages better apparent from adetailed description of the invention which" is as follows members for the meeting edges of'theboun ing walls of the box, thesaid walls compr s are split longitudinally, the slit 3 thus form in each of the topseris of tubes-1, receiv1n the marginal, outwardly deflectedfflangefi, 3 of the outer sheet I) of the adjacentvertical' wall, which flange well enters thefchamber t of thetube' 1, said slit likewise receiving the terminal flange 4: deflected from the ontwardly bent v marginal ledge or shoulderffi formed on'the upperedgeof the inner sheet a. H, represent-s a handle hinged to the lid or cover.
Having described my invention, what I claim is 1. A box having a series ofvertical Walls and a bottom, each composed of an inside sheet and an outside sheet spaced at suitable distance apart, a filling of heat non-conducting material in the space between the sheets, a longitudinally slit tube at the meeting edges of each two contiguous walls, outwardly deflected flanges formed on the outside sheets and entering the slits of said tubes, flanges formed at the ends and lower edges of the inner sheets of the vertical walls, and along the edges of the inner sheet of the bottom and bearing against one another on diagonal planes, flanges turned outwardly from the upper margins of the inner sheets and passed through the slits of the upper series of tubes, and offsets between the sheets and said flanges forming collectively a ledge for the support of a suitable lid, and a lid adapted to rest on said ledge.
A box having a series of vertical walls and a bottom, each composed of an inside sheet and an outside sheet, said walls meeting at their edges, longitudinally slit tubes located at the vertical meeting edges of the walls and inclosing the edges of the outer sheets, and plugs inserted into the lower ends of the tubes and forming legs for the box.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
