, CONCRETE CONSTRUCTION.
APPLICATION FILED OCT. 31,1908. I
Patented Aug. 31. 1909.
A'A'A'A'Q JAVIWJ' 7 A I serum. 0. written, or manor-enamels;
Tdall whom' 'it may'coacem."
Be it known that '-I, SAM-om. 0. Film!- MENT, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Lockport," in the county of Will and State of Illinois, have invented certainnewjand useful Improvements in-Concre'te- Construction'; and-I do hereby declarethat the following-description of my said'inven tion, taken in connection with the' accom panying sheet of drawings,- clear, and exact specification, enable others skilled in the-.arts. to which 1t apl ertains to make and use-the same.
T s invention has general reference. to improvements in concrete construction; and its object is to make buildings constructed of concrete, water, and damp-proof.
-To attain thisobject, my invention consists in the novel and peculiar combination of parts-anddetailsof construction as hereinafter first fullyfset' forth and described,
and then pointed outin the claims.
fragment of a building constructedin accord 2.; -is*a sec-- In the draw ngs already referred to,-
which serve to illustrate this invention more fully, Flgure 1 is a perspective-view of a ance with my invention. Fig. tional plan of'a concrete wall, showing the application of the. water, and dampproofing'material therein. Fig. 3 is a lanofthe water, and damp-proofing material formed with a plurality of corrugated has " walls I locate water, and damp-proof sheet-v sheets; Like arts are designated'by corresponding' sym '01s of reference in all'thefigures. d I n the drawings 'the reference numeral 2 es1 my invention, .it' being understood, bein licable to-a'ny concrete'1building, dwe 1ng'-; These .wallsare ouse, barn, and the'like, built up in the usual manr'ier, either solid, or from properly-shaped blocks, and each wall is composed. of two parts, an inner wall 3, and anouter wall .4, these walls beingtied together inanyv desired manner, anchors-5, however bemg preferred, since they" do notinterfere with my invention. "Between-these ings 8 and 9, 'Whi'chjmay conslst of a building-paper made waterproof in any desired manner, sue as being lmpreg'iatedwith tar,
or other well-known and approved substance,
the anchors 5 being passed through-these.

duced whichwilleffectually prevent l'l'lOlS- .ture from penetrating the -various Walls from the outside ofjth'e building.
It will be observed that. sheets 8 and 9 respectively and between same in engageme'nt therewith is arranged a corrugated sheet 10, which forms dead air spaces 7.
sage is'formed, the sheets 11" having their outer faces secured to the adjacent. inner face of the sheets 8' and 9l whereby individual vertical air passages-12 are formed between the sheets 8 and 9 and 11.
In cases where basements, sub-basements or other underground structures, tunnels,
and conduits are subject to inundation by water'enteringfrom the outside of the structure, I may, as a further precaution, and additional means,'for (preventing the entrance of such eiztranedus moisture, fill the these substances asphalt, ior compositions of as the building or compounds of' the same,

but I desire it tobe understood that. other materials may be employed fsuch as felt, sheet'-asbest0s-&c;, and-in-faet iron, steel or parting from that. instead. im liire'gnated with a my'invention. I will also state 'ofnsing a board saturated or e the. SQIIIGWQtGfFI'OOf, I mayem by a v'I'naterial that nee s no waterroo g, since the dead-air spaces in the we sform,

substance which will of themselves, a damp-proof medium that use thissheeting and depending upon the conditions under which the same is to be employed, so that the sheeting illustrated in the drawings may consist each of one or more layers in order to secure the desiredv results. It will be further observed that this sheetin is comparativel cheap and that a buil ing of water, and damp-proof construction as described,-can be erected at less cost than any other damp, and waterproof construction with which I am acquainted.
Having thus fully described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure to me by Letters Patent of the United States 1. In a concrete-structure in combination with an inner-{wallandan outer wall 'arranged in spaced relation, a sheet of waterproof material abutting the inner faces of each 'of said walls, a corrugated sheet of 1 waterproof material interposed in the space Q between said sheets of waterproof material and having its-corrugated parts secured to a sa d sheets, and transverse anchors which ex- 'Attest:

In testimony that I claim the foregoingas my invention I have hereunto set my hand in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
