Description

UNITED STATES- PATENT OFFICE.
airman sutznnnonn, on NEW YORK, n. Y. p ANTI-SEPTIC ooMPosrrIoN eom'amme PHEVNYLIACETATE.
No Drawing.
To all whom, it may concern:
Be it known that I, NATHAN a citizen of the United States resldin at No. 34 West Seventy-first street, New and State of New York,- l1ave invented new SULZBERGER,
and useful Improvements in anqAntiseptic these acetates, and of simllar Composition Containing the Acetic Acid Ester of a- Phenol, of which the following is a specification.
I have experimentally discovered that the acetic acid ester of a phenol, su ch as cresylacetate, 'phenyl-acetate, etc., (pheuyl-acetate, for example, splitting up by the action,
for instance, of caustic soda, intoxabout seventy per cent. of pheno.l.carbol1cacid-end sodium-acetate) are splendid non-irritant the very also less POISOII- and noncaustic substitutes for caustic phenols themselves, ous and less coagulant for albumen, still possessing, however, the value-0f the phenol as an analgesic and antiseptic. I have for thermore found that the value of these :ace tates as pharmaceutical and cosmetical nonescharotic antiseptics and analgesics can be still more accentuatedby the addition of varying percentages of compounds soluble in effect as, for
example, the essential oils.
of; America,
an example of my invention I cite a mixture of about three per cent. of oil of eucalyptus and about one per cent. of oil of peppermint in phenyl-acetate. Y ork city, inthe county ofNew York 2, A non-irritant analgesic and antiseptic phenol preparation for medical and pharmaceutical use consistmg of a llquld compound composed of a solution of about five ,per cent-of an essential oil in the acetic acid ester of a phenol.
3. A non-irritant analgesic and antiseptic phenol preparation for medical and pharmaceutical use consisting of a liquid compound composed of a solution of essential oils in the acetic acid ester of a phenol, improving the odor of such acetic acid phenolester. Y
