MAnrLE-HoLnER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 21 1907, Serial No. 374,895;
Patented Aug.'31, 1909.
Renewed January 26, 1909. Serial No. 474,331.
To all whom it may concern: Be it known that I, MoRRIs OrrnNBnne, a subject of the Emperor of Germany, residing at Pittsburg, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Mantle-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to mantle holders, and the invention has for. its primary object to provide a simple and inexpensive holder, which will not break the mantle due to the expansion and contraction of the holder.
Another object of this invention is to provide a strong and durable mantle holder in which a mantle can be easily and quickly fastened. y
A further object of this invention is to provide a mantle holder that can be constructed from a single piece of metal, the holder being designed whereby the top of' the mantle will be fully protected.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a novel mantle holder that will not interfere with the light or rays given off by the same.
A still further object of this invention is to provide a mantle holder to present a neat appearance, and will be freeof all danger "of injury by the heat from the mantle.
With the above and other objects in view which will more readily appear as the in: vention is better understood,;the same con sists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, and then specifically pointed out in the appended claim. 7
Referring to the drawing forming part of this specification, like numerals of refer' ence designate corresponding parts throughout the several views, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of my improved mantle holder, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same, Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view of the holder, Fig. 4:
is a plan of the mantle holder, and Fig. 5
is a bottom plan. g y e To put my inventioninto practice, I con struct my improved mantle holder from a single pieceof metal preferably a disk-which has its peripheral edges out and "sheared, as
at 1 providing a plurality of radially disposed slits. The piece-of metal is also out and sheared, as at 2, to provide a strap 3, said strap during the formation of the holder. being bent upwardly, to form a loop by which the holder is suspended from a suitable support 4.
The piece of metal when stamped and bent provides a crown 5 for shielding the upper edges of a mantle 6, said mantle being fixed in the groove 7 of the holder and resting upon the slitted breast 8 thereof. The slitted breast when subjected to the heat of the mantle expands and firmly supports the upper edges of the mantle 6 in the groove 7 of the holder, although the expansion and contraction of the holder will not interfere with the mantle 6 or the support 4, as the supporting means, namely the strap 3 is loosely mounted upon the support. In constructing a mantle holder wherein provision is made for the expansion and contraction thereof, I have dispensed with the breaking of mantle holders due to this cause, and increased the longevity of mantles.
I do not care to confine myself to the specific shape of the holder or to the material from which the same is constructed, and I desire it to be understood that such changes in. the size, proportion and minor details of pended claim, may be resorted to without departing from thespirit and scope of the invention.
hat I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination "with a mantle and the support thereof, of a mantle holder, said holder being constructed of a single piece of metal out to provide a central strap or loop for suspending said. holder from said support, said holder having peripheral slitted edgesbent to provide a crown for said mantle, a circumferentially arranged groove, and a breast for supporting the upper edges of said mantle in said groove.
In testimony whereof I afi'ix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
