Description

llnited 5eme ALMON KOPF, OF SOUTHPORT, CONNECTICUT.
Letters Patent No. 93,229, dated August 3, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN LOCK-NUTS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of `the same.
To all whom it may concern:
'Be it known that I, ALMoN ROFF, of Southport, in the county of Fairfield, and State of Connecticut, have invented al new and improved Lock-Nut; and I do hereby declare that the following isI a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to made and use the saine, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 represents an end view of my improved lock-nut.
Figure 2 is a cent-ral section ofthe saine.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to lock-nuts,. and is designed as an improvement on the lock-nut for which I received Letters Patent, No. 88,908, dated April 13, 1869. In that example of iny invention I applied a right and left-hand nut to one screw, the saine working on separate corresponding threads, or one nut and one screw working in opposite directions, and set-screws for looking the nuts together when adjusted.
My present invention is lnuch more simple, and consequently less expensive and in uch more easily adjusted than the former, as will appeal' from the following description taken in connection with the drawings.
. A, in the drawings, Arepresents a bolt of suitable kind,
adapted to receive a nut, B, as shown.
C is a small screw fitted into the end of the bolt after the nut has been applied. The thread of the screw C runs in the reverse direction to that of the bolt, so that it' the latter is right-handed, the former will be left-handed.
The head (t of the screw, when brought in contact with the face of the nut, will loc-k the nut, so as to prevent it from becoming unscrewed, and will thereby lock it to the bolt. f
The screw is Ifit-ted eccentrically into the bolt, as shown, so that only a portion of its h'ead may lapover the face of the nut.
Having thus described my inventin,
:I claim as new, and desire .to secure by Letters Patent- The set-screw C, fitted eccentrically in the end of the bolt A, its head a resting partly on the surface of the nut B and partly on the end of the bolt,l the latter and said screw having threads cut in opposite directions, as and for the purpose herein set forth.
The above specification of iny invention signed by nie. this 25th day of May,.1869.
ALMON ROFF.
