Description
E. A. FOSTER.
BLIND. APPLICATION FILED FEB. 17, 1908.
Patented Aug. 24, 1909.,
I auoentoz I flmm s UNITED STAES PATENT OFFICE.
EPI-IRIAM ABIGER FOSTER, 0F SANDUSKY, OHIO.
BLIND T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EPHRIAM Anronn FOSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Sandusky, in the county of Erie and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blinds, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to an improvement in blinds, and the object is to provide means whereby slats can be repaired which have become broken at their pivotal connection with the frame of the blind. Again this securing or fastening means for the slats can be placed on the frames and the slats made to be applied to such a securing means at the outset. By this connection I am enabled to do away with the boring of holes in the frame for the pivotal ends of the slats, thereby preventing water or moisture from getting into the openings and decaying the frame.
The invention relates to certain novel features of construction and combinations of parts which will be hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a View in perspective showing my improved invention; Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary sectional View through the same, and 3 is a perspective view of one of the tubular pivots.
A, represents the frame of a blind, and B is a slat of the usual construction.
A plate 1, which can be made of any suit able length, is secured to the frame A of the blind by means of screws or other means 2 passing through openings in the plate. Loosely mounted in apertures in the plate are tubular pivots 2, which are adapted to be received in sockets or recesses 23 in the slat B.
The tubular pivot 2 is adapted to fit over stud 4 and enter the socket or recess 3 in the slat, whereby the pivot is entirely concealed, giving the appearance of an entire wooden connection or making a connection which would appear to a casual observer to be the ordinary slat with a wooden pivot having an opening in the frame in the usual manner.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 17, 1908.
Serial No. 416,321.
By this improved tubular pivot I am enabled to place t e entire number of slats in the frame of the blind without the necessity of breaking the joint of the frame, and in so doing it is only necessary to apply the plate with the tubular pivots thereon to the slats and then screw or secure the plate to the frame of the blind. If, however, the slat of the usually constructed blind becomes broken I can replace the slat by merely making a circular socket therein for the reception of the tubular pivot and securing the plate carrying the tubular pivot to the frame, when the blind will have the same pivotal nliovement as in the ordinary constructed. s at.
It is evident that more or less slight changes might be made in the form and arrangement of the several parts described without departing from the spirit and scope of my invention, and hence I do not wish to limit myself to the exact construction herein set forth, but
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. The combination with a blind frame and slat, the slat having a cylindrical socket formed in one end, and a stud extending through the center of the socket, of a plate adapted to be secured against the inner edge of the blind frame, and a tubular pivot loosely mounted in the plate adapted to enter the socket and to fit over the stud and be frictionally held thereto.
2. The combination with a blind frame and slat, the slat having a cylindrical socket formed in one end, of a plate adapted to be secured against the inner edge of the blind frame, and a pivot loosely mounted in the plate adapted to enter the socket of the slat and be rigidly held therein.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
EPHRIAM ABIGER FOSTER.
