by the 'chdensation' of the steam. it will be see that the end of the pipe d goes con-i siderabiy below the Water levei' the incoming steam causes an agitation of the Water so that the impurities are carried oat by the pipe N into the tank K, where they are allowed to settle; If any steam is car ried over by the pipeN it is immediately condensed by coming in contact with the cold air entering the pipes M. In order to provide an additional means for condensing' the steam I arrange the screens S in the hood L. These screens provide extended sui'-v faces 'which 'rapidly' extijact the .heat from the steam and cause a complete eenden-sam -tlon of the latter. The pipe L 1s for the pulipose of conveying away the 'i'ieat whichl would otherwise be confined .in the hood. The Water in the tank K after having been i'eiieved of its settiings now overflows .into the cistern P from whence it may be pumped immediately into the heile?? through the pipe in a ure state.
1. In a condensing system, an exhaust pipe, a cold water pipe communicating therewith7 means for s ra ing the incoming stream7 a hotwelL a 'pipe ing therefrom, a settling tank communicating with said Well through said pipe, means insaid set tling tank for the further condensation of the steam, a cistern, and an outet pi ve leading Vfrom said settling tank to said ezs tern.

` ot weii, t other end. sut'ace of the 'water in said ling tentava sistem, and a pipe leading from y.said ,settling tank to said cistern.
'liu a condensing svstemi7 an exhaust pipe, means foi" condensing the steam 'from said exhaust pipe, a hot weit in communicatieh with said lcondeneiug means, a settlin tank, a pipe connectingsaidhot-Well wit 1 settiihg tanti, one end of said connecting-pipe being normaiiy below the surface of aotnwell with tici connect-l he surface of the water in said hot wiiaif., and the other end being 4above the suz'faee of the 'Water in said settling teich9 means tot admission of coid'a said into settiing tank, a .hood for settling tank provided with transverse id having' aa'iexcit, e, cistern, and a .i g from said setthng tank to said pipe l .t
