Description
G. AALBORG. GLAMP r03 TBOLLBY GONDUGTORS.
WITNESSES ATTORNEY ELECTRIC dz MANlll A(ltlllll'lli WHIPANL A (OllPOlfti-ti Specification of Letters Eetent.
Patented Aug. 1'7, 1909.
Application filed September 9, 1907. Serial No. 392,04t8.
To all whom it may concern:
lie it known that l, Gnms'rL-m' Aniiinono, a eilixen o't the United States, and a ri'as'ident of ll'ilhinsburg, in the county oi Allegheny and State of lennqylvania, have invented a new and useful improvement in Clamps for 'lrolley-Conduetors, of which the following a specification My invention relates to means for suspending electric line conductors and it has for its object to provide an improved clampiugdevice whereby a trolley conductor may be simply and durably secured to a suitable support. I
lily improved clamping device is specially adapted vtor use with grooved trolley conduetors that are suspended from messenger wires or cables, but its use is not limited in this regard and it may be employed in connection with conductors of circulu cross sec tion that are supported lrom bracketarms or cross wires in accordance with a well. known practice for low potential lines,
Figure l, of the accouu ""lying; drawings, is u, lronl elevation and Fig. an end ration of a trolley hanger and clamp constructed in accordance with my invention. .l igs. 3 4-, 5 and l, are detail views of the clai'nps shown in Figs, 1 and Referring to the drawings, a trolle conl'uetor l suspended from a messenger wire l or cable 2- by means of a hunger rod 3, n onblc'chnnp t and. a trolley clamp 5. The ca- )lc clam l comprises a loop (3 which sun rounds the cable 2 and is provided with a pair ears '7 the upper end of the connecting rod 3 being; flattened to [it between the ears 7 and being; secured in j)(). llll)}l by means; of a belt 8.
The trolley clump comprises a pair of interchangeable jaw membere i) the lower ends oi which are hooloshape to engage grooves it) in the trolley conductor 1. llaon of the par e l), which are illuatrated in do tail in Fi a and 3 is provided with Hll1')lll der PIOjOCllOUS 11 having inclined outer faced '2 to clamp also comprises a member (illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4-) which is adapt ed to fit over the members 5) and is provided with wings l2 to engage the inclined surfaces of the projectionsill. The lower end of the rod 3 is acrow thrcaded and extends through a hole '11} in one end of the member 12 to receive a nut 14: and is also provided with it nut. l5 above said member. The jaw lllllllbtlll ll are so formed as to provide a spate tor the nut 'l-l and a hole to for the end of the rod 33.
in ilfib'blllbllllg the clamp the two jaw members are first assembled, with their hoolo shaped ends in engagement with the groove in the trolley conductor, and the member 12 is then fitted over them, The nul '14; is then placed in the opening formed in the body of the clamp, the rod 13, having the nut 15 there on, is thrust through the holes 13 and 16 and screwed into the nut l4. 'lhc nut 15 is then sertmcd against the outer end of the member 12 to fol-re the wings 12 against the pro jectionr'a 11 and thus lock the jaw members in position with the trolley conductor clamp-2d between the lower ends.
ilne oi the principal advantages of the chimp of my present invention lies in the fact that the jaw members are interchangeable and that they are entirely free from either externally or internally threaded p0rlions It will also be observed that the conv truciion of the hunger is such as to admit ot an adjustment of its length and that the trolley wire may be disengaged from the hanger without disturbing the cable clamp.
rangement of details which do not depart From the spirit of my invention shall be ineluded within its scope.
I claim as my invention:
1. trolley clamp comprising a ban er rod. inlerehangeable jaw members provit ed with eom )lemenlary end projections having inclined outer surfaces, a clamping member having side highto engage said inclined surfaces. and means for drawing the aw members and the clamping member toward each other lo produce a clamping action between the jaws. v
2. trolley clamp con'iprising a hanger rod, interchangeable jaw members having hook-sluipetl ends adapted to engage the grooves in a trolley conductor and provided with complementary shoulder projections having inclined outer surfaces, a clamping member having a hole in one end through which the end of the hanger rod projects, and side wings that engage the shoulder projections, and set nuts which engage the. e.\'- tremity ol' the hanger rod and draw the in i'lllllll surfaces of the jaw member projec- S desire that variations in size and ar-.
tions against the wings of the clamping member to produce a clamping action between the jaws.
3 A trolley clamp comprising a hanger rod, interchangeable jaw members having a hollow body portion and hooleshaped ends and pro'vided with complementary shoulder.
projection? having inclined outer surfaces, a clamping member having a hole through which the end of the hanger rod projects and wings that engage the shoulder projections of the jaw members, and set nuts which ames engage the extremity of the hanger rod and draw the shoulder projections of the jaw members against the Wings of the clamping member to produce a clamping actionbetween the jaws.
In testimony whereof, I have hereunto subscribed my name this 29 day of August,
CHRISTIAN AAIJBORG.
