UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANSEL J. CHENEY, OF BEVERLY, MASSACHUSETTS.
URINAL-VENTILATOB.
Application filed January 7, 1909.
To all whom fit 'may concern:
Be it known that I, ANsEL J. CHENEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Beverly, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Urinal-Ventilators; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to urinals, and the particular object of the invention is to provide a system of ventilation for a plurality of nrinals whereby the obnoxious odors may be directly conveyed from the point of production to the outside air.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully de'- scribed and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing, Figure 1 is a front elevation with parts broken away and parts shown in dotted lines; Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the' line of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrow; Fig. 3 shows a modified forni of the construction in front elevation with parts broken away, and Fig. el is a horizontal section on the line e--l of Fig. 3.
Referring more especially to the drawings, 1 represents the floor of the room in which the urinals are placed and 2 represents the urinal supporting member which is preferably constructed of marble, porcelain or other sanitary and non-combustible material. The urinal compartments are separated by partitions 3 and in each there is located the usual urinal t. In this instance the member 3 is spaced from the wall 5 a considerable distance and has an air opening or space 6 at the bottoni. This air opening 6 is made in each compartment as shown and communication with a converging air duct or l pipe formed between the member 3 and wall in any suitable manner. These ducts may be connected individually to each urinal as is shown in Fig. 1 or they may be jointly arranged for a plurality of urinals as shown in Fig. 3 by the employment of spacing partitions 8 which extend diagonally from the Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 1'7, 1909.
Serial No. 471,153.
I lower outer edge of the outside urinals to the center flue t). In either instance' the flue S) conveys the air which enters at the opening G directly out to the open air, and in either instance the urinals are provided with an opening in their baclt adjacent the top thereof at 10 which communicates with the individual or general ducts formed.
It is to be particularly understood that the ducts 7 may be formed of any suitable fire proof material and may be independent of the walls and supporting member 3 or may be made as a part thereof.
From the foregoing description, taken in. connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claim.
Having thus described and ascertained the nature of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is :-n
In a plumbing czmstruction, the combination with a floor and a wall of an apertured urinal supporting member extending up from the floor, vertically converging spacing partit-ions arranged between the wall and supporting member and forming a converging duct, extending from the bottom of the urinal member to the top thereof, an outlet duct mounted upon the upper end of the supporting member and directly communieating with said duct, said urinal supporting member having openings formed in its end adjacent the floor, and urinals mounted upon the urinal supporting member and each provided with a vent opening communicating with the apertures in said supporting member and with the outlet duct.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ANSEL J. CHENEY.
