PERRY L, TENNEY, OF ALAMEDA, CALIFORNIA.
ADJUSTABLE DROP-LIGHT BRACKET.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PERRY L. TENNEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Alameda, in the county of Alameda, and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Drop-Light Brackets, of which the following is a specification.
This invent-ion relates to lighting fixtures and refers especially to a device for supporting an electric light.
An object of this invention is to construct a bracket to be applied to the cord of a depending electric light b y means of which the light may be adjusted to various positions and angles.
Another obj ect of this invention is to construct a bracket of this nature which is of simple construction, easy of operation and is strong, durable and of economical manufacture.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description and it will be understood that changes in the specic structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a side elevation of an electric bulb having the improved bracket applied thereto, Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the bracket detached, Fig. 3 is an edge view of the bracket arm detached from the clamping ring, Fig. 4c is a detailed edge view of the clamping ring, Fig. 5 is an opposite edge view of the clamping ring.
Referring to the drawings 10 designates an electric bulb which is supported in the socket 11 and which is provided with a shade 12. The socket 11 is supported upon a drop wire 13 which also conducts the current to the bulb 10.
The improved bracket comprises a metallic split ring 14 formed from wire which is provided with loops 15 and 16 upon the opposite ends thereof. The loop 15 comprises a turned-over portion of wire which is flattened upon it-s inner face and which is provided with a threaded central portion for the engagement of the threaded thumb screw 17. The loop 1G is formed by turning over a portion of the wire and flattening the same upon both sides. The outer flattened surface Specification of Letters Patent.

of the loop 16 is provided with a number of serrations as shown in the drawings at 1S. The loop 16 is formed offa greater size than the loop 15 for the purpose of obtaining a large serrated surface.
The ring 14 is supported upon the lower extremity of an arm 19 which is formed of wire and which is flattened and serrated as at 2O at its lower end to engage against the serrated surface 1S of the ring 14:. The portion 2O is apertured to receive the thumb screw 17 to bind the portion 2O to the surface 18 to secure the ring 141 in adjusted position. The Lipper end of the arm 19 is formed substantially S-shaped as at 21 for the reception of a portion of the drop wire 13 which is frictionally engaged therethrough.
In operating the device the S-shaped portion is engaged with the wire 13 and the socket 11 is secured through the ring 14 and held in such position by the thumb screw 17 which is passed through the flattened portion 2O of the arm 19 and into the loops 16 and 15 respectively where it is tightened and so held by reason of its threaded engagement with the loops 15. The bulb 10 can be secured at any desired angle by releasing the thumb screw 17 and swinging the ring 14 about the thumb screw 17 as a pivot point to the position required when the serrated faces 18 and 2O are clamped together by the thumb screw 17.
vWhat I claim is 1. In a bracket the combination of an arm, an S-shaped friction wire-engaging member on said arm, a flattened and serrated portion on the opposite extremity of said arm, a ring having loops formed thereon, said loops being flattened and having one face thereof serrated for engagement against the serrated portion of said arm and a thumb screw disposed through said arm and said loops for securely holding said ring in adjusted position.
2. In a device of the class described, the combination of an arm, an S-shaped wireengaging member disposed upon the upper extremity of said arm, a flattened and serrated portion formed upon the lower eXtremity of said arm, a ring having loops formed at the opposite extremities thereof for engagement about an electric bulb socket, a flattened and serrated face disposed upon one of the loops of said ring for engagement with said flattened and serrated extremity,
there being a threaded portion formed cen- In testimony whereof I ax my Signature, trally of the opposite of said loops and a in presence of two Witnesses. thnlnb screw dlsposed through Sald loops and PERRY L.
