Description

iINiTnD STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES F. GAY, OF ALBANY, OREGON.
IMPROVEMENT IN GANG-FLOWS` Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 93,077, dated duly 27, 1869.
To @ZZ whom. it may concern.: c
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. GAY, of Albany, in the county of Linn and State of Oregon, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Gang-Flows; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this speeication, andto the letters and gures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a longitudinal sectional view of my device. Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
My invention relates 'to cultivators; and it consists, mainly, in a novel arrangement of devices intended to serve as efficient means for the purpose named.
The letter A of the drawings represents the axle of a sulky-cultivator, and letter B the neap placed upon one end thereof, inside the wheel.
Letter O represents the drivers seat, and letter D a treadle-lever pivoted at the foot thereof, as shown.
The letter E represents the plow-beam suspended below the axle, and letters F the plows attached thereto.
My means for suspending the plowbeam to the axle are as follows, vnamely: I attach an arm, c, to the lower side ofthe neap, and aix to the lower end of said arm a staple, c,which staple is pivoted to the front end of theplowbeam. I also attach braces d to the front of the axle,by suitable pivots, and connect their opposite ends one with the plow-beam and the other with a perforated bar connected-with the staple c. I further attach a chain, h, to
the rear end of the plow-beam, and after pass ing the same over the curved and grooved arm n connect its opposite end with the lever G in the manner shown. The lever G is pivoted tothe rear end of the neap, and is held down upon the same, when desirable, by being passed under the hook n.
The letter H representsy a ratchet-bar working upon a suitable shoulder on the axle, and is raised' at will by means of the treadle-lever D, above mentioned. It is also actuated by means of the lever I,next described. The lever P is pivoted to the front end of ratchetbar H, as shown, and it has a bent attachment, y, at its lower end, which is pivoted to the front end ofthe plow-beam.
To operate my devicefor raising the plows, I depress the lever G and fasten it under Aits hook. To lower the plows, so as to make them out deep furrows, I depress the leverrl?. The
treadle D serves to release the teeth on the CHARLES F. GAY.
