engage the dove-tailed tongue 10 ot the adjustabie member 3) on one side, the wall ot the groove being cut away on that side to permit this result. By means ot this belt, to the threaded extrei by of which applied a nut 25 the adjustable saddle nember 9 may be secured tightly in place. This bolt 2-; occupies a position directly above the heads of the bolts to which connect the clamp members 113 and ll as heretofore explained. ln assembling the saddle members the bolts 15 are placed in position before the saddle member 51 I place, the ripper portion of the clamp mean ber 13 being cut away, as shown at 26 it", to permit this result. I
From the foregoing description the use and operation of my improved eonstructibn will be readily understood. Assuming that the drill eteel 28 has been used to drill a hole 29, in the rock 2-30, it it is desirable to remove this drill steel and introduce a longer one for the purpose of drilling the hole (1001).;1', it only new sary to first move the drill casing 5 rearwardly upon the guide shell (3, through theniedium of the feed screw 7, a sullicient distam-e to detach the rear end All of the steel from the chuck ot' the casing. nut 25 upon the bolt 93 sutiiciently to permit the movement of the tongue 10 in the groove 12. the entire drill mechanism may be moved laterally with the adjustable menr ber Qto the position indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 3. The drill steel 28 may then be removed and a longer steel 33 put in its place, after which the drill mechanism may be returned to its original position after moving the casing rearwardly a sullicient distance n on the guide shell to permit; the rear extremity of the drill steel to' be inserted inthe chuck.
The adjustable member 9 is so constructed with reference to the clamp member til upon which it is mounted, that when the member 9 is returned to the proper position,
the member 5) and the clamp 13 will register as to their outer ,curved edges, so that the workmen will always know when the proper adjustment is made without paying attention to' the position of the drill steel.
I'laving thus described my invention, What I claim is:
1. A drill saddle provided with a top mei'nber and a lower member, the top mom her being provided with means on its upper surface for rotatably mounting the drill and the bolt, 21 are put. in v and Then by loosening the t t l t i l t i l t thereon, and suitable means on its under surface tor shdably mounting said topmember upon the adjacent lower member, the
top member also having a clamping bolt pas ed therethrough, at right angles to the direction of its sliding movement, for locking the drill in place, the adjacent lower member being also provided with a clamping bolt passed therethrough parallel With the clamping bolt 01 the top member, the threaded extremities of the two bolts bein exposed on opposite sides of the saddle, an provided with fastening nuts, for the purtiose set forth.
It drill saddle provided with a top member and a lower member, the top member being slida'bly mounted upon the adjacent lower member, the top member having 2 tongue engaging a counterpart, groove formed in the adjacent'lower member, the top member having a clamping boltpassed therethrongh, at rightangles to the direction of its sliding movement, for locking the drill in place, the adjacent lower memberbeing also provided with a clamping bolt passed therethrough parallel with the clamping bolt ot' the upper member, the threaded extremities of the two bolts being exposed on opposite sides of the saddle, and provided with fastening nuts, for the purpose set forth.
:3. A drill saddle comprising a pair of clan'iping members, bolts connecting said memi'iers, the upper member having an opening extending at, right angles to the clamp bolts, said opening being located directly above the heads of the bolts, aclamping bolt passed through said opening and serving to lock the clamp bolts in place, the said saddle having a top member provided with a tongue engaging a counterpart groove formed in the='adjac'ent clamping member, the clamping bolt having a hookhaped extremity adapted to engage said tongue, the said top member being also pro vided with a clamping bolt, passed through an opening tormed therein, and having a hooleshapcd head for locking the drill in place upon the saddle, substantially as described.
in testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
