HAROLD C. KEAYS, OF ELK RIVER, MINNESOTA,
SIGNAL.
that the house-keeper desires them to fill` orders and leave supplies on the premises.
lVith the above general object in view, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of' parts as herein fully described, illustrated and claimed. i
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a front elevation of the signal. Fig. 2 is a cross section through the same.
The signal preferably comprises a rectangular and substantially square body composed of front and back sections 1 and 2, re-
spectively, arranged in substantially parallel relation to each other and supported and held at a suitable distance apart by intervening spacing blocks 3 thereby leaving a space between the front and back sections in which a series of radially movable panels 4; are adapted to slide in and out. The panels A are slightly less in thickness than the distance between the front and back sections so to slide easily, and each panel is provided adjacent to its inner end with a stud 5 which works back and forth in a slot 6 in the front section l, the stud being provided with an operating head '7 by means of which the respective panel may be slid outward and inward.
The slots 6 in the front section all radiate from a common center outward as shown in Fig. l in which the slot, as a whole, is of cruciform shape and in order to permit the panels to slide fully within the planes of the outer edges of the signal board, the inner ends of the panels are diamond shaped or reversely beveled or pointed as indicated by dotted lines in Fig. 1 so that when drawn inward they all abut together on lines which are diagonal to the lines in which the slots expand.
The signal board as a whole is adapted to be secured to the wall of a house or buildingA ASpeeication of Letters Patent.

or any other suitable support by means of screws or other suitable fasteners inserted through openings 8 in one or more attaching plates 9 secured to the rear section 2 of the signal board by screws or other fasteners 10.
The panels 4t may be provided with suit- .able letters or designating characters as illustrated in Fig. l constituting the signaling characters for the merchants so that each merchant may recognize the sign which is indicated for him and thereby be informed that he is desired to call for the purpose of receiving an order or leaving supplies. For example, as shown in Fig. l, one of the panels may be provided with the letter Gr, designating the grocery man, another panel may have the letter I represented thereon to indicate a call for ice, while the other panels may be lettered D and B respectively, to form calls for the dairyman and butcher. Any desired number of panels, may, of course, be provided in connection with the board and any number of characters may be represented thereon for the purpose above described.
I claim n A board for signaling merchants compris- Ving rectangular front and back sections,
spacing pieces interposed between said sections and arranged at the corners thereof so as to leave intervening panel recesses, a series of slidable panels radially movable in said recesses from a common center and adapted to be projected outward beyond the marginal side top and bottom edges of the signal board, the inner edges of the panels being cut away at the corners to meet on diagonal lines intersecting in the center Aof the signal board, one of the signal board sections being provided with slots eXtending in the line of movement of the panels, and operatin g studs connected with said panels and projecting through and beyond said slots along which they are movable, the relative arrangement of the panels thereby involving by their positions a significance which conveys certain information.
In testimony whereof I aiiiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HAROLD O. KEAYS.
