Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed November 113, 1M8. Serialfio. 463,394.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it. known that we. 'ILLIAM F. SMITH and RIART'IN Jonxsox. citizens of the United States, residing at Coshocton in the count of Coshocton and State. of ()hio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in MatclrBoxcs and Bill-Holders, of v which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a combined match box and bill holder, and the invention relates especially match box in partly open osition so that matches will be delivered onnthe box to a suitable tray carried by the holder.
The invention consists of the novel featitres of construction hereinafter described,
pointed out in the claims and shown in the accompanying drawings. in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view showing our device in use. Fig. :2 is a vertical section through the holder and match boti.
In constructing the device we employ metal, sheets which form a back 1. adapted to be hung vertically upon a wall and curved over at the top as shown at :2. the extreme upper marginal portion being bent inwardly tohward the lJlI('k.2lS shown at 3 but not to an extent sullicicnt to cause the said edge to come into-contaet with the back. .it the bottom the back piece is curved back upon itself as shown at 4 and then interlocks with the bent rear edge of'a supporting shelf The front edge of this shelf is bent back upon itself forming'a flange (3 and is then again bent outwardlv and slightly curved to form a tray 7, the front of said tray being curved over as shown at 8 and then bent upwardly and downwardly as shown at 5.). thus forming a bill holder clip of a length equal to the width of the tray.
In use a match box consisting of outer and inner sections A and B as the section B moved in a partly open position and said section B is then slipped upon the shelf 5,
the front edge of the lower end of theboxlwing slipped beneath the-flange 6. the flange extending into the box. The section A. is then lifted upwardly. its rear edge passing between the back 1 and the edge of the. bent portion 3 and bearing upon the curved portion 2. as shown in Fig. 2. The box thus held firmly in a partly open position; and matches moving from the box will fall hpon to a device for holding a the tray l and can be readily drawn one at a time over the curved front edge 8.
What we claim isz- 1. A. match box holder consisting of a back bent upon itself at the top, a box sup porting shelf carried by the lower edge of the hack, the shelf being bent transversely upon itself to form a flange, said flange-engaging one end of the match box, and the bent upper end of the hack engaging the opposite end of the box, holding the box in open position. said shelf.
2. A device of the kind described; formed of metal and consisting of a back, shelf and may. the hack being bent forwardly and then inwardly atits upper edge to engage the 7!? rear upper end of the open box, the shelf and the tray being: separated by an inward-lfixtending flange integral with both, said flange engaging the front edge of the lower end of the box. position. i 3. A match box holder consisting of 'a shelf adapted to support a match box placed on end in a slightly open position, the front edge of the sh lf being bent-back, and the fitl front edge of the box fitting under said flange. a curved tray extending in advance. of the shelf and integral with said flange, the shelf being bent back upon-itself at its rear edge. and a back bent at its lower edge 35 to interlock with the bent rear edge of the shelf. and curved forwardly and then bent back upon itself at the upper end, the upper edge of said back being spaced from the; 90
vertical portion of the back.
4. A two piece match box holder consisting of a ba k, a shelf. and a tray; the shelf and tray being formed of a single piece, and separated from each other by a crimped flange. said flange extending rearwardly 9 over a portion of the shelf, and the-back being curved outwardly and then bent inwardly adjacent each end, the shelf being. bent back upon itself along its rear edge and interlocking with an end of the back, as and me for the purpose set forth.
