No. 928,776. Specification of Letters Patent. Patented July 1 909.
Boil; known that I, Join: A. Marousnn, a ,i-onnectiou \VHlL-llit! ratchet wheel to preeitizen of the United States, residing at vent the stem 5 from turning backward. Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and Fasl; on the op'mnil'e end of the stem 5 is a State of Ohio, have invented new and useful spider or in ot arr w.-n-d.-i a series of radiatlmprovements in Gas Extinguishers and log arms tL-earh of which carries at its outer Lig iters, of whichthe following is a speciend a laterally projecting pin adapted to tication; i be operated n )Ull by a main valve operatin r This invention relates to means for lightluver II which is iuleruu'ual at its outer en 10 lag and extinguishing gas burners the obat 12 on a brat-hot arm .13 extendinglaterjeetof the invention being to provide simple ally away from the valve casing 4, as shown electrically controlled :nparatus for'accomin- Figs. l and :2. [inferring to the drawings, l dimignaies n 28 designates a pilot tube the discharge 45 gas hurm-r which may he of any usual or and of whioh is arranged oloue to the main u'o'lorrod form. 2 designating the tubular louu-reo as to rradily lfflillt the gas m said 'JtlHt! of the burner and --l the gas supply pipe hurnor. llw oppoauimo of Hilltl plpe being which leads through the hose ol the burner. lllllll'llt'll lo the hose ol' the hurnonaml omnl 4. designates the valve ohulnhur in which is muuiratiurr with the around gas plumage uuumtod a gun out. oll'. valve, the stem of an whirh vuds iutotlu p'lmigrr valveeasing which is indicated at. 5 by dotted lino-4 in 27m: shown in Fig. It. relatively smaller Figs. 1 and 2 and by full lines in Fig.1. romnmnivatiug passage 30 oxionda from the Mounted last, on one and of the vulva slum us par-maggan to the other pare-ago 20 and 5 is a ratohot'. whorl ll huvln a curtain nnm ls controlled by n regulating arrow Ell as (15 her of teeth 7. four lasing shown by prrl'rr shown in Fig. 3. llu-rrhy permitting any 4 dneilodamount of gas to How through the To all whom it may concern:
enoo. (loiiporulihg with tho rah-hut wheel :i is u .-s iring- )ItSSBtl detent 8,whi ch acts in passage 30 from the inlet assa e 26 to the passa e 29. It will furt an e .observed that t e larger portion of the lunger Valve or in other words the valve r oper 24 normally obstructs the entrance to the outlet passage 29,.being held inthat position b means of a valve closing spring 32 wliic acts in a direction to cause a projection of the stem 23 from the casing 25 so that said stem may be acted upon by the foot exten sion 22 of the valve 0 erating lever 19.
'33 designates a so enoid/ or magnet conirising a longitudinally movable core 34 mm which a suitable connection 35 extends to the lever 11 for imparting motion to said lever or in other words, drawin the lever down when the solenoid is energized. The solenoid 33 is shown as mounted upon a suitable base 36 provided with binding posts 37 to receive the current wires of a circuit including a generator or battery and a push button or circuit closer, (not shown).
From the foregoing descri tion it will be apparent that when the so enoid is ener ized by elosin the circuit, the core 34 1S drawn backwar thus swinging the lever 11. Thiscauses the pivoted finger 14 to come in contact with oneof the pins 10 of the s ider and depress the arm from which sai pin projects, moving the stem 5 of the main sup ly valve a. one-fourth of a revolution which has the effect of o enin or closing said valve as the case may is the finger 1.4 swings downward, a heelprojection 38 on the extension 22 swings upward. and engages beneath the pin 10 thereby arresting the movement of the s ider at the point shown in Fig.2 after it has moved 90. When the circuit closer is released and the circuit broken, the spring 16 acts to move the lever 11 u ward to the position shown in Fig. 1,'there y r storing all parts of the mechanism to their normal position of rest, as shown in Fig. 1. Thus, each time the circuit is closed a one-fourth of a revolution is imparted to the main su' ply valve, thus turning on and shutting 0 gas alternately. At the same time the plun r valve 24 is o erated which admits an a ditional su ply o? s to the pilot tube 24 causin the ame at lighted to flare up, thus insuring the ignie discharge end thereof whic is always.
tion of the gas at the main burner when the main burner valve is opened.
I claim 1. In a device of the class described, the combination of a main burner, amain burner supply valve, a main valve operating lever a solenoid connected with said lever and adapted to swing said lever when the solenoid is ener ize valve contro ling the su ply of gas to said pilot tube, and a second connected to the first named ever and adapted to operate said plunger valve simultaneously with the operation of the main burner sup ly valve. i
2. In a evice of the class described, the combination of a main burner, a'main burner su pl valve, a series of arms projecting ra 1a 1y from the stem of said valve, a main valve 0 erating lever, a solenoid connected with said lever and adapted to swing said lever when the solenoid is energized, a pilot tube, a plunger valve controlling the su ply of gas to said pilot tube, and a second ever operatively connected to the first named lever and adapted to operate said plunger valve simultaneously with the operation of the main burner supply valve, substantially as described.
3. In a device ofthe class described, the combination of a burner, a main burner supply valve, a pilot light tube, a, spring closed plunger valve controlling the as supply of said pilot light tube, a main v5 lever, a pivoted fin er carried by said lever, a series of arms radiating from the stem of the main burner su ply valve and adapted to be operated upon y said finger, the finger being mounted to spa past the arms in the return movement of t e main valve operating lever, a pilot valve 0 erating lever connected with the main va ve o ratin lever and adapted to cooperate witi the p unger valve to 0 en the latter, and a solenoid connected wit one of'said levers, substantially as described.
In testimon. whereof-I ailix my in presence 0 two witnesses.
