JOSEPH FURNAS MILES, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
TENT PIN OR ANCHOR.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Josnri-r F. MILES, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, in the county of St. Louis City and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tent Pins or Anchors; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved anchor especially adapted for use as a tent pin.
The object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed and efiicient device of this character to which a guy wire may be attached without danger of breaking thereof.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features, of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a perspective view of this improved anchor applied; Fig. 2 is a similar view of the guy wire engaging member detached; and Fig. 3 is a similar view of the clamping member.
In the embodiment illustrated, a pin or stake 1 is shown having one end thereof preferably curved and tapered to adapt it for ready insertion into the ground and to brace it against the strain exerted thereon. This pin is preferably provided at its lower pointed end with spaced apertures as 2 to receive a flexible element 3 preferably in the form of a wire which is connected at its other end to the yoke like member 4 having a semi-circular groove 5 therein around which the guy wire 6 is designed to be passed to prevent short bending and the consequent breaking of said wire. A clamping member 7 is attached at one end to one end of the guy wire and is provided with a notch 8 adapted to hook over the guy wire at a point above the grooved yoke member. The guy wire 6 is preferably provided at its other end with a snap hook 9 for engagement with the Specification of Letters Patent.

tent or other object to be braced. The guy wire may be composed of any suitable material, either a chain or a rope may be used as a substitute for the wire herein shown.
In the use of this anchor when the pin or stake l is driven into the ground, the wire attached to the lower end thereof is carried with it and when the guy is tightened this wire 3 cuts through the earth and is brought into line with the holes 2 in the stake and the point Where the guy fastens to the tent or other object to be braced.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described and ascertained the nature of my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters-Patent, is: 1. An anchor comprising a stake having one end thereof curved and provided with longitudinally spaced apertures, a guy engaging yoke a flexible element connecting said yoke with said stake through said apertures, and means for connecting the guy with said yoke.
2. An anchor comprising a securing stake, a yoke having a circular groove therein for the reception of the guy wire, flexible means connecting said yoke with the lower end of said stake and a clamping member adapted for connection at one end with one end of the guy wire and having a notch for engagement with said wire after its pass-age around said yoke.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JOSEPH FURNAS MILES.
