To all whom it may concern:

Be it known. that l, ANNA S. C. SNnATI-I, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have invented or discovered certain new and useful improvements in Package Covers or Receptacles, of

. which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention has for its object to provide a folding extensible and waterproof cover or receptacle adapted to contain any desired reasonable number of suit cases which may be inclosed therein, and which. when thus inclosed can becarried 011 the trunk rack of an automobile in place of a trunk. l l hile specially intended for containing suit cases the improved cover or receptacle may be used in traveling for holding packages of other kinds, if desired, will be obvious.

Usually anv automobile touring party comprises several persons who may wish to carry a quantity of baggage, and on arrival a hotel or other stopping place it is more convenient for the dii'i'crent persons composing the party to take their individual baggage to their own rooms rather than to be obliged to have recourse to a trunk which may contain the belongings of the several persons composing the party.

The present invention has for its object to provide a waterproof and dustproof receptaclc which may contain any reasonable number of suit cases or traveling bags which when inclosed in the receptacle or cover will be strongly bound together and may be as conveniently carried as a trunk, while the assembled suit cases or traveling bags will be well protected from rain or dust by such cover or receptacle, the latter being collapsible so that when not in use it may be folded or rolled into small compass and placed. under a seat or in any other restricted space. To this end the package cover or receptacle is made of any suitable flexible water-proof material, preferably of enameled or rubber cloth, or oil cloth, the pieces composing the receptacle being of such shape and size that when. joined together they will'mako a rectangular bag of suitable shape and size to receive any desired number, from two to four or five or more, of suit cases or other packages, and will be provided with straps and preferably with a suitable cover, so that when the desired number of suit cases or packages have been placed therein the whole may be strapped together in such a manner as to make one firm package which may be handled like a trunk.

Referring to the drawings, 12 denotes the body of the receptacle which will preferably be made of enameled cloth or some similar flexible waterproof material and the component parts of which will be oined together in such a manner as to provide a rectangular case or receptacle when the same is in extended condition, said receptacle p refcrably having a closed end and an open end which may be closed by folding in the flexible ovcrlapping material composing its body portion. Attached to the body 12 at the closed end of the receptacle are corner pieces 13 preferably consisting of strips of leather or canvas, or other similar strong material, and extending from said corner pieces 13 are other corner pieces 14 of similar character. 'l ho corner pieces 13 are preferably attached to the body 12 in such a manner as to leave pockets in which may be removably inserted stiffening angle pieces 15 preferably of sheet metal which will serve to assist in holding the re 'ceptacle in condition for the convenient insertion of its contents. Extending between the corner pieces 141- at a suitable distance from the corner pieces 13 are straps 16 of leather or other suitable material, and to which last-named straps are preferably attached other straps 17 and 18, the said straps 18 being provided with buckles for properly securing the said straps 17, the joined straps 1'7 and 18 being intended to overlap the folded closed end of the body 12, and thus hold the contents of the receptacle compactly together. In order, however, to more firmly bind the contents of the receptacle together, to prevent rattling or jarring, a cover 19 adapted to be slipped over the end of the case or receptacle, as represented in Fig. 3, is provided, said cover being preferably formed of flexible Waterproof material like that composing the body of the receptacle, and being provide d with strengthening bands or straps 20, and with other straps 21 attached to the cover and to the body 12 of the receptacle by means of suit able loo s 22; the said straps 21 being of suitable ength to )ass around the entire receptacle when the atter is filled (see Fig. 3) so as to strongly bind the contents of the said receptacle together, and make a firm and compact package or bundle of all the suit cases or other packages in the receptacle.

When the receptacle 12 and its cover 19 are not in use these parts may be rolled or folded into compact compass, as they are flexible and thereby easily collapsible; and in order to make the folded package more compact than it otherwise would be the stiffening angle pieces 15 may be withdrawn from their pockets and nested together into small compass.

From the foregoing it will be apparent that the invention provides a waterproof and dustprool receptacle in which may be placed any desired number of suit cases or other packages which will be strongly bound together therein, and which will be thoroughly protected from rain or dust when thus inclosed in the collapsible or folding waterproof or dustproof case or receptacle.

Having thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent: 1. A collapsible and foldable package re ceptacle the body of which is composed of flexible waterproof material and which body is provided with protecting and strengthening corner strips, said receptacle having a closed end, and also an open end which may be closed by folding in the material comosing the body of said receptacle, and the latter being provided with straps whereby the said open end when folded in may be secured, said receptacle being also provided with a collapsible and foldable cover for its folded-in end, said cover being also of flexible waterproof material and being provided with straps of suitable length to encircle said receptacle and cover and their contents.

2. A collapsible and foldable package receptacle composed of flexible waterproof material having protecting and strengthening corner strips, said receptacle having a closed end, and an open end which may be closed by folding in the material composing the body of said receptacle, and the latter being provided with straps whereby the said open end when folded in may be secured, the corner pieces extending from the closed end of the receptacle being formed as pockets, and said pockets being provided with re movable stifiening angle-pieces.
