Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRIS LEVIN, on NEW YORK, N. Y.
CHILDS CRADLE;
To all whom "it may concern:
Be it known that I, HARRIs LEVIN, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Childrens Cradles, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cbilds cradle or crib and its object is to provide a simple and substantial device to be suspended between supports, to have a flexible bottom to be readily collapsible and easily carried or transferred, as will be more fully described in the following specification, set forth in the claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawings where:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improved cradle. Fig. 2 is a bottom plan view. Fig. 3 is a cross section of the cradle.
The invention comprises body 5 of canvas or othersubstantial fabric which is braced along its upper and open edge by two rods or bars 6 and suspension rods 16 while beneath the bottom 7 of the cradle are sewed the strips 8 of fabric with openings for the passage of the slats 9.
The slats 9 project beyond the ends of the cradle and have their ends connected by means of the cross pieces 10 which are hollow with openings at the side to admit the ends of the slats and are pivoted at one of each of their ends by means of a pin 11 passmg through the cross piece and a slat, while the other end is held in place by a pin 12 which passes through the cross piece and a slat and is secured to the cross piece by a chain 13. These cross pieces are identical at each end of the cradle and are adapted to be pivotally attached to one slat only when it is desired to fold the cradle or remove the slats.
At the ends of the rods or bars 6 there are holes or eyelets in which are inserted hooks 15 of the cross rods 16 at each end of the cradle. These rods are connected with suspending cords 17 hung from any suitable support, the cords passing through loops 1S and these rods are braced by means of links 19, carried by the frame 6.
The cradle is provided at each side with handles 20 attached to the fabric or to the rods or bars 6, so that the cradle may be collapsed and transported with case when not suspended by the cords. Being of flexible material the cradle is readily collapsed and Specification of Letters Patent.

folded into a very small space and may be carried by a valisc or a traveler's package.
The construction shown provides a simple and substantial crib with a flexible bottom that may be made at a moderate cost and the parts which may break may be easily and cheaply replaced. In replacing the slats 7 the end pieces 16 are placed in a straight line with the slat to which it is pivoted when the pivoted slat and the others may all be pulled through the loops or openings between the straps S and the fabric of the cradle and be removed.
It is obvious that the details may be modified as occasion may call for without departing from the essential features of the invention above described.
What I claim is:
1.. In a cradle, the combination of a flexible body, having detachable slats at its bottom to impart rigidity longitudinally, rods at the sides of the body and end rods hooked to the side rods.
2. In a cradle, the combination of a flexible body, having a bottom provided with lateral strips, detachable slats between the bottom and the strips, rods at the side of the body. provided with eyelets at their ends, and end rods with books to engage the eyelets.
3. In a cradle, the combination of a flexible body, having lateral strips at its bottom, dotachable slats between the strips and the bottom, cross pieces connecting the slats, rods at the sides of the body, provided with eyelets, end rods with hooks to engage the eyelets, and links attaching the upper ends of the flexible body with the end rods.
4. In a cradle, the combination of a flexible body having lateral strips at its bottom, detachable slats between the strips and the bottom, cross pieces connecting the slats, rods at the sides of the body provided with eyelets, end rods with hooks to engage the eyelets, the body being capable of folding when the end rods and cross pieces are removed, and handles attached to the sides of the body.
Signed at New York, in the county of New York and State of N. Y., this 17th day of March, A. D. 1909.
HARRIS LEVIN.
