JAMES P. WILSON, OF TRENTON, NEBRASKA.
SAFETY BALL-BEARING NECK-YOKE.
Application filed April 6,
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JAMES P. WVILsoN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Trenton, in the county of Hitchcock and State of Nebraska, have invented certain now and useful ln'iprovements in Safety llallliearing NecleYokes; and 1 do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accon'ipanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in neck yokes and the object in view is to produce a simple and efficient device of this nature, which will be adapted to use upon various forms of implements, and comprises various details of construction, combinations and arrangements of parts which will be hereinafter fully described and then specilimrlly defined in the appended claims.
I illustrate my invention in the accompanying drawings, in which.
Figure l a perspective view showing the device as applied to a neck yoke tree. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view, and Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a neck yoke receiving ring or band showing a raceway therein.
Reference now being had to the details of the drawing by letter, A designates a band which is turned into the form of a ring and is provided with flanged ends held together by means of the bolt B. In the outer circumference of said band at positions diametrically opposite are formed horizontally disposed raccways D in which the ball bearings I) are mounted and which raceways l) cooperate with the vertically disposed raceways to provide for a movement of the neck yoke. Surrounding the band A is a second hand ll, the ends of which have apertures for the reception of the pole tip K, said band 1' also having interposed between its two apertured ends a block N which is provided with apertures registering with the apertures in the ends of the band F through which the pole tip passes. Projecting from. the rear face of the inner end of the band F is a curved flange forming a hook G which is adapted to engage the tongue 0 which projects from the under portion of the pole tip,
Specification of Letters Patent.

said hook Gr being adapted to engage said tongue and hold the neck yoke upon the tip in the event of the traces becoming broken or detached. In applying a neck yoke to the pole, the band 1* is placed over the pole tip, given a partial rotary movement to allow the flange or hook to pass by the end of the tongue '0 and after which, by giving a reverse movement to the band F, the flange will turn so that the tongue 0 will be en gaged thereby in the manner shown in Fig. 2 of the drawings, thus holding the band and neck yoke from moving backward or forward. upon the pole. The inner circumference of the band F is provided with the vertically disposed raceways H which cooperate with the raceways l) to hold the balls E in place and allow a slight play to the neck yoke C and hand A carrying the same. Said band F serves as a means for holding the neck yoke up in the event of the balls breakin ld hat I claim to be new is 1. A ball. bearing neck yoke comprising, in combination with a ring, a neck yoke passing through the same, a frame about said ring and having an opening for the reception of a pole tip, the circumference of said ring having raceways, and anti-friction balls in the latter adapted to bear against said frame, as set forth.
2. A ball bearing neck yoke comprising, in combination with a ring, a neck yoke passing through the same, a frame about said ring and having an opening for the reception of a pole tip, the circumference of said ring having raceways, anti-friction balls in the latter, the inner circumference of said frame having recesses for the reception of said balls, as set forth.-
3. A ball bearing neck yoke comprising, in combination with a band and neck yoke carried thereby, raceways formed in the outer face of said hands, a second hand surrounding the neck yoke carrying band, spaced apart therefrom and provided with raceways in the inner face, ball. bearings ends of said second hand provided with registering apertures for the reception of the pole tip, and means upon said second band and cooperating with the pole tip to hold the neck yoke upon the tip, as set forth.
4. A ball bearing neck yoke con'iprising, in combination with a band and neck yoke interposed between said raceways, the outer' carried thereby, raceways formed in the outer face of said hands, a second hand surrounding the neck yoke carrying band, spaced apart therefrom and provided with raceways in the inner face, ball bearings interposed between said raceways, the outer ends of said second hand provided with registering apertures for the reception of the pole tip, and a hook upon one end of said second hand and adapted to engage a tongue 10 upon the pole tip, as set forth. 7
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two Witnesses.
JAMES P. \VILSON.
