UNITED STATES Para-N OFFICE- KATE DAVIS, OF WILKES-BARRE, PENNSYLVANIA.
' mssneme nnvrcn.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, KATE DAVIS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Wilkes- Barre, in the county of Luzerne, State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Massaging Devices; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such' as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
The present invention relates to improvements in massaging devices, andit has for its primary object the production of an exceedingly simple, inexpensive and eflicient device of that nature including a pair of massaging rollers located within the interior of the cupshaped body of the device and projecting bespecification and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the present invention. Fig. 2.is a bottom plan view. Fig. 3 is :a longitudinalsection of the invention, taken on the line 353 of Referring more particularly to the drawings, the present invention is shown as comprising a substantially cup-shaped member 5, ellipticall in crosssection and provided with an outwardly flared rim, concaved slightly with respect to its major axis. The upper ortion of the member 5 branches into two to es 7 and 8, which are arranged for the attachment of rubber hose pipes 9 for the passage of liquids to and from the interior of the member. To prevent acci dental dis lacement ofthe hose pipes, the free end o f'each tube is provided with a se ries of threads or ridges, as shown in Fig. 3. Within the member is disposed a air of transversely extending ins 10, each 0 which carries airo'ller 11 revo ub'ly mounted thereon, and having its periphery extending beyond therim thereof, so as to engage an surface, against which the device is presse The rollers above referred to arepreferably formed of rubber or similar resillent mate- Specifieation of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 22, 1908. Serial No. 428,686.
Patented July 6, 1909.
' rial presenting a frictional surface, though if desired, metal rollers maybe substituted therefor. It is to be understood, moreover, that, while in the present instance, the memher 5 is shown as provided with two massage rollers, the device is adapted to operate equally well with three or more rollers, or with a single roller.
In use, the device is disposed with its con cave surface against the face, or other portion of the body, in which position the rollers below the lower edge thereof.
bination, a. cup-shaped member having fluid inlet and outlet openings formed therein, a plurality of pins disposed within the interior of said member in spaced relation to and parallel with each other, and a roller carried by each pin, said rollers projecting below the lower edge of said member. v
3. A massaging device comprising, in combination, a' cup-shaped member, a plurality of pins disposed within the interior thereof, in spaced relation to and parallel with each other, and a roller carried by each pin, said rollers projecting below the lower edge of said member.
4. A massagin device comprising, in comcross-section and formed at its lower edge with an outwardly-flared rim concaved with respect to its major axis, a pluralit of pins disposed within the interior of sai member rollers projecting below theconcave portions of said rim.
5. A massagin device comprising, in combination, a cupliaped member elliptical in cross-section and formed at its lower edge with an outwardly-flared rim concaved with respect to its major axis, said member belng provided with fluid inlet and outlet openngs, a plurality of pins disposed withln the 2. A massaging device comprising, in combination, a cups aped member elliptical in in spaced relation to and parallel with each other, and a roller carried by each pin, said.
the interior of said member and projecting I loo below the concave portions of said rim.
6. In combination with a, hollow body; means for passing water therethrough; and a series of hard, independently movable .members mounted in the outer end of the body and projecting normally beyond the same.
7. In an apparatus of the character specified, the combination of a hollow body portion; means for passing water therethrough; and a protruding member normally extending beyond the outer face of the body, said member being formed of a substantially unyielding substance.
8. In an apparatus of the character specified, the combination of a hollow body; means for passing water therethrough; a fixed supporting rod or bar extending transversely of an opening formed in the outer portion of the body,'and a rotatable member mounted upon said rod and normally projecting beyond the face of the body.
9. In an apparatus of the characte'r specified, the combination of a hollow body;
means for passing water thereth'rough; a 4
series of fixed supporting rods carried by the body in the discharge opening for the water formed in the outer end thereof; and a series of rotatable members mounted upon the rods, said members normall projecting to a slight extent beyond the b0 y.
10. In combination with a hollow body; means for passing liquid therethrough; and a series of independently-movable members normally protruding beyond the outer end of the body.
11. In an apparatus of the character specified, the combination of a hollow body portion; means for passing fluid therethrough; and a series of independently-movable members secured in the outer end of the body portion adjacent to the openings formed for the passage of the fluid and normally projecting beyond the body portion.
In testimony whereof, I aflix my signature,
in presence of two witnesses.
KATE DAVIS.
