ELECTRICAL IGNITION APPARATUS.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, TnEoDoRE HUBERT, a citizen of the United States, and resident of New York city, borough of Manhattan, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electrical Ignition Apparatus, of which the following is a specification.
The object of my invention is to provide improved means for producing sparks in the cylinders of explosion engines, and particularly to cause accurate tiring in the cylinders at the required. time, and my invention is especiallyv applicable for use in multiple cylinder gas engines of high speed.
Attempts have been made to utilize an induction coil for each engine cylinder in connection with a single vibrator for all the coils for causing the make and break of the circuit for each coil. In such ignition systems, as known to me, the difliculty experienced is that .they introduce inductancc and destroy or retard the desired effect, thereby making thc device slow in action, because ot the introduction in the circuit of au extra highly inductive element, such as the winding or windings of the magnet of the single vibrator. In my invention I utilize an induction coil for each cylinder orP the engine, and in circuit therewith I utilize a sin le vibrator device having my .improved dlouble wound magnet, wherein a plurality of cores each having a winding, which windings are substantially equal inn umher of turns and ol substantially the same gage of wire, and said windings are wound in opposite directions and are connected in multiple with respect to A cach other, and each such winding 1s in series in the circuit with the corresponding induction coils of the engine, whereby the current traversing the circuit at any time splits or dividesat said windings of the vibrator magnet and thereby reduces inductance in said vibrator' windings. Such magnet operstes the vibrator' to make and break the circuit ot the primaries of the induction coils. In order to reduce an self induction in the magnet coils due to the make and break of the armature circuit by the armature or vibrator, I denser bri( ged across between the windings Or the terminals of the windings of thc vibraf tor magnet. A condenser' may also be used bridged across the make and break contacts of the vibrator in the usual manner.
In the accompanying drawings I have diagralnmatically illustrated my invention in connection with a sinY cylinder gas engine rovided with ordinary spark plugs of the.4 ]ump spark variety.
The engine is indicated generally at A and the s ark plugs at B, one terminal of each plug eing, as usual, grounded at the engine and the other terminal in circuit with the corres ending secondary C of the induction coils IIJ), by means of conductors C', the opposite terminals of which secondaries are grounded through the engine, as represented at E. The primaries D are connected, as by conductors j', with the respective terminals 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 of a suitable timer, whose contact or arm 7 may be driven by the engine in usual manner, and is in electrical connection with the engine, as through conductorS. The opposite terminals of thc primaries, as 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, G, are connected as by wire 9 with the vibrator' or vibrating spring 10 having a contact point 11 adapted for engagement with a contact 12 shown carried by an adjusting screw 13 fitted to a bridge or support 14 in any well known manner. The armature- 10n of the vibrator 10 is shown of su'llic'ient area to co-act with the cores 15, 15n of an electro magnet having two windings 16, 16, one winding upon each of said cores, which windings are connected at their corresponding terminals a, l), and said windings are wound in opposite directions, and are of substantially the same number of turns andthe same gage wire. I have shown the cores 15, 15n substantially in the form of'a horseshoe or U-shape, whereby the two cores are connected together at correspending ends. 14. An electrical ignition apparatus, com prising a plurality of induction coils, a vibrator device provided with a plurality of cores,
- a winding on each core, corresponding terminals of said windings being connected together and also connected with corresponding sides of the circuit of the )rimaries of the induction coils, a source of e ectrical energy included in the circuits of said primaries and said vibrator windings, a timer for said primary circuits, and a condenser bridged across opposite terminals of the vibrator windings.

An electrical ignition apparatus comprising a plurality of induction coils, a vibra tor device in circuit with the primaries of said coils and having a plurality of cores provided with windings wound in op )osite directions, corresponding terminals oi said winrb ings being permanently connected together and also connected withy op osite sides of the circuit, a source of electrica energy included in the circuit ot said primaries and said Vibrator windings, and a timer for the primaries of said induction coils.
16. An electrical ignition apparatus comprising a plurality of induction coils, a vibrator device in circuit with thc primaries of said coils and having a plurality of cores provided with windings wound in op osite directions, (-.orrespoinling terminals o"'said windings being connected together and alsoconnected with opposite sides of the circuit, a source of electrical energy included in the circuit of said primaries and said vibrator windings, a timer for the primaries of said induction coils and a condenser bridged across opposite terminals of said vibrator windings.
17. Anv electrical `vibrator comprising a plurality of cores, and a plurality of windings on said cores, the corresponding terminals of said windings being permanently connected together, an armature for said cores, and make and break contacts controlled by said armature.
