The present invention has relation to com-- bination' locks and it consists in the difierent parts a'nd combination of parts hereinafter described and particularly pointed out-in the claims 7 Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures of the drawing.

The outer knob spindle at is provided with the usual knob 5. v To the outer knob spindle a is securely attached or formed integral therewith the spindle head 6, which is provided with the screw threaded aperture 7 into whichscrcw threaded aperture is seated the screw threaded end 8 of the inner knob spindle 9.v The, spindle head 6 is provided with the lateral lug 10, which lateral lug is for the purpose of limitingthe movement of the inner knob spindle 9 by reason of the pin 11 coming in contact withsaid lug, thereby allowing the inner knob spindle tobe rotated at any time and the lug 10 is also for the purpose of coming in contact with the pin 11 so that when the outer knob spindle is rotated the inner knob spindle will be rotated with it.
The easel. is provided with the hollow post 12 upon which post are located any de sired number of spacing disks 13, toothed disks 1%,lock disks 15, said disks being varied as to number reference being had to the number of locking disks designed to be employed. In the present case three lock disks are employed but of course the number may. be increased or decreased without changing the nature of the invention but two lock disks must be employed to bring about a true combination. The spacing disks 13 are provided withthe extensions 16, which extensions are notched for the purpose of'receiv ng the pin .17, which pin is fixed to the case 1. The toothed disks it are provided with the pins 17? which pins are for the purpose of connecting the lock disks 15 by means of the apertures 18, the combinatlon being changed from t me tov tune by placing the pins 17 in. different-apertures formedin the lock disks-15.

Thelock disks are each provided with the notches22, which notches can be brought into proper .alinement with the notches 23 formed in the spacing disks l3 and the notch 24 formed in the setting disk 20. The dog'25 is 'free to be carried downward by means of the spring 26, which s ring'is located through the aperture 26 formed in the right angled portion of the dog 25 and when carried downward it releases the spindle head 6 together with the knob spindles 4 and 9.
- For the purpose of roviding a means for actuating the setting dlsk 20 the setting knob 27 is provided, which setting knob is pro-- spring so tensioned that it will have a -tend-' ency to move the dog down when free as above described.

'It will be understood that when the locking lever is located as shown in Figs. 9 and 11 the cam lug' 38 will not come in contact with the pin 39,.but will pass said pin without coming in contact therewith; butwhen the locking lever is brought into the position shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 the cam lug 38 will engage the pin 39 and move the locking lever 36 downward as illustrated in Fig. 4, and when the hook 37 has come fully under the lug 33 the spring 40 will move the locking lever up carrying withit the dog 25; but this movement cannot take place until the shoulder 34 has been carried out of the way of the dog and in order to automatically do this the s ring 41 is provided, whichspring forces the spindle head 6 into the positlon shown 1n Fi l.

In a lock of the character described, a case, outer and inner spindles, one of the spindles provided with a head, said head provided with astop, a dog located below the head, a lever pivotally connected to the casing and provided with a hooked lower end, means carried by the head and lever, whereby the lever is actuated by the movement of the head, a spring for elevating the head and a series of toothed and locking disks and a setting disk, substantially as and for the purpose specified.

vided with an arm lying at a right angle to the plane of the disk and adapted to engage the peripheral extensions on the interlocking-actuating disks to set said disks and therewith the combination disks to their in 'itial positions, means for actuating the interlocking disks to bring the peripheral recesses therein in alinement with the end of the dog, and a stationary vpin or abutment engaging the peripheral extensions on the 1nterlock1ng actuating disks to limit their resetting movements.

In a combmation lock. an outer knob spindle, aspindle head connected with saidhead and the combination disks, said dog having an end bent at right angles and on one side of the plane of the dog, said bent ndbeing adaptedto engage the stop on the spindle head or the notches in the combination disks when said notches are brought into alinement therewitln'a depending lever adapted to hold the dog 'fronr. engagement with the combination disks at predetermined times, a setting disk secured to the spindle and havingaperlpheral arm lying at a right angle to the plane of the disk, the interlocking-actuating disks h'aving peripheral/extensions adapted to be engaged by the peripheral arm on the setting disk whereby said actuat ing disks and therewith the combination disks are moved to zero, and a stationary abutment limiting the setting movements of the interlocking-actuating disks.

In a combination lock, an outer knob spindle, a head on said spindle having a stop thereon and a cam surface, a series of combination disks and their interlocking-actuating disks assembled upon a common axis of rotation, said combination disks having each a stop thereon, an individual actuating bar cotiperating with each of the actuating disks of the combination disks, a spring-pressed dog having an end terminating at right'angles to the plane of said dog, the lower portion of said right angled end being recessed and adapted to enter the notches in the combination disks while the upper portion of said end is adapted to engage the stop on the spindle head, a depending lever having a hook on its lower end adapted to move across the recessed portion of the dog to hold the same from engagement with the combination disks, said lever having a pin thereon en- "gaged by the cam on the spindle head whereby the lever is moved 'to such position, and
means for giving the leverits initial movement from its normalposition.
13. In a combination lock, an outer knob spindle, a head on said spindle having a stop, a series of combination disks with their interlocking-actuating disks, each combination disk having a peripheral recess and each interlocking-actuating disk having a peripheral extension, means for interlocking each combination disk with its companion-actuating disk at predetermined points, means for actuating each of the interlocking disks through which the, combination disks are operated to bring their peripheral recesses in alinement, a spring-controlled dog having an end turned at a right angle on one side of the plane of the dog, said end being adapted to engage the stop on'the spindle head or the recessesin the combination disks, a depending lever adapted to hold the dog from engagement with the combination disks at predetermined times, means engaging the peripheral extensions of the interlocking actuating disks to move them to their initial positions and therewith the combination disks, and a stationary abutment stopping the movement of saiddisks at such position.
14. In a combination lock, an outer spindle and knob, a head on said spindle, said head having a stop on its lower periphery and stops projecting from its upper periphery, a stationary stop pin located between v said last named stops, a series of interlock tion, said combination disks having each a upper portion of said end being adapted .to
engage the stop on the lower periphery of the spindle head, a depending lever adapted to be moved to a position to hold the end of the dog out of engagement with the combination disks, means for moving said lever to such position when turning the outer knob the latter has-been released. by the end of the dog, and means for giving said depending lever its first or initial movement.

In a combination lock, an outer knob spindle, a head on said spindle having a stop thereon, an extension from said head, a leaf spring engaging said extension to hold the head normally in position with the stop thereon in a vertical position below the axis or the head, stops pro ecting irom the upper on the lock casing engaging said stops to limit the opposite moveme us of the head, a cam on said head, a series of combination disks and their interlocking actuating disks mounted upon a spindle below the knob spindle, means for changingthe relative po sitions of each interlocking disk and its com panion disk, the combination disks having each a peripheral recess, means for actuating each interlocked set of disks to bring the recesses in alinement, a spring-controllixl dog interposed between the spindle head and the disks, said dog having its end bent at a right being pending lever having its lower end adapted l to engage said shoulder to hold the dog in an elevated position, said lever having a lower extended portion, a pin extending from the inner side of said lever and engaged by the cam on the spindle head and whereby said lever is moved to the position to maintain the dog in said elevated posi tion, a sliding cam adapted to initially move said lever, and means for setting the disks to their initial positions and for moving the lever from the position engaging the dog, said means comprising a setting disk having a periphe al extension lying at a right angle to the plane of the disk and adapted to engage peripheral extensions on the interlockspindle and therewith the spindle head after ing-actnating disks, and said setting disk having a projection adapted to engage the lower extended portion of the depending lever and to move said lever out of engagement with the end of the dog.
16. In a combination lock, a spindle head. having a. stop thereon. a series of combination disks having rece: es therein, means for actuating said disks to bring the recesses in alinement, a spring-controlled dog having its end bent and the upper portion thereportion ot said head, a stationary abutment E or being adapted to interlock withzthe stop on the spindle head, ashoulder formed on said end, and the lower portion or said end being adapted to, enter the recesses in the coml iination disks, a depending lever having :n engaging end adapted to maintain the dog in an elevated position by engaging the shoulder on the end of said dog, means for moving said lever to such position, means for moving itirom such position, means for actuating'the combination disks, and means for setting them in their initial positions.
