T o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, LEON B. Ynisnn., a citizen of the United States, and resident oi- Cleveland, Ohio, have invented certain new and useful lmprovements in Flushingl'anks, oi which the following is a specification containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part hereof.
My invention relates generally to flushing tanks, and more particularly to a combined silence chamber and after iill lor flushing tanks, whereby the action of the water discharged into the tank is made perfectly noiseless, and the a'l'ter fill providin means whereby su'liicient water is delivere to the closet valve trap to form a perfect seal therein.
To the above pur oses, my invention consists in certain nove features of construction and arrangement ol parts, which will be hereinafter more fully set lforth, pointed out in the claims, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a vertical section taken through the center of a flushing tank constructed in accordance with my invention 5 Fig. Z is a detail section taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a plan view oi the silence chamber; Fig. 4 is a vertical section taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3; and Fig. 5 is a horizontal section taken on the line 5-5 of Fig. 4.
Referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings: 1 designates the body of the flushing tank, 2 the water supply pipe provided with the usual inlet valve 3, operated by a float, and arranged in the bottom of the tank is the outlet or discharge valve housing 4, normally closed by the usual discharge valve 5, which is usually in the form of a rubber ball. All of the parts just described are of ordinary well known construction, and form no part of my invention.
Formed integral with the outlet valve housing below the valve seat is a hollow eX- tension 6, into which is fitted the lower end o a vertically disposed over flow tube 7, and seated in the u per end thereof is a hollow member 8, whic forms the silence chamber, and through the center of which member extends a vertically disposed tube 9, with which the upper end of the tube 7 communicates. Connected to the side oi' this silence chamber 8 is a horizontally disposed tube 10, the opposite end of which is connected to the inlet valve housing 3, and formed in the tube 9, directly opposite the end of this tube 10 is an aierture 11. Leading from the side loi' the si ence chamber 8 downward to a point adjacent the bottom of the tank 1 is a tube 12, which allows the water delivered to the silence chamber to discharge into the tank 1.
The operation of my improved llushing tank is as follows: When the valve 5 is elevated, the water in the tank discharges through the valve housing to flush the bowl in the usual manner, and when this action takes place the float connected to the inlet valve 3 is lowered, thus opening said inlet valve, and water from the supply pipe 2 will now pass through the open inlet valve, from thence through the tube 10 to the silence chamber 8. @wing to the use of the silence chamber, the pressure of the water entering said chamber is relieved, and the noise incident to the discharge of said water is muled or deadened within said silence chamber, and said water finally discharges through the tube 12 to the interior of the tank 1. When the water rises in said tank to such a degree as to elevate the oat connected to the inlet valve 3, said valve will be closed thereby, shutting off the supply of water to the tank, and in order to insure suilicient water to form a seal in the trap below the bowl, the aperture 1 1 is provided, which permits water to pass downward through the overow tube 7, from thence through the hollow extension 6 of the valve houslng 4, and from thence downward through the tubular connections to the trap. Should there be any leakage of water through the inlet valve 3, the excess of water coming into the tank 1 will discharge through the tube 9 in the center of the silence chamber, and will pass down through thc over flow tube and be carried to the trap beneath the tank.
The silence chamber and after i'lll of my improved construction is very simple and inexpensive, is applicable for use for all forms of flushing tanks, will operate under any water pressure, takes care of any leakage of the inlet valve in the tank, and insures suliicient water in the trap beneath the bowl to form a perfect seal.
I claim:
1. The combination with a flushing tank provided with the usual supply and outlet pipes, of a tubular connection from the supply pipe to the outlet pipe, a silence chamber arranged in the tubular connection, and there being an outlet from the silence chamber to the interior of the tank.
2. The combination with a llushing tank provided with the usual inlet and outlet pipes, of an annular housing arranged in the tank between the .pipes7 a tubular connection from the inlet pipe to the annular housing, a tubular connection from the opening in the center of the annular housing to the outlet pipe, and there being `an aperture forn'ied through the inner wall of the annular housin and there being an outlet from the annu ar housing to the interior of the tank.
3. An attachment for flushing tanks provided With the usual inlet and outlet pipes, comprising a housing through which is formed an opening, and which housing is connected to the inlet pi e of the tank, a tubular connection from t e opening in the housing to the outlet pipe of the tank, there being an opening formed through the inner wall yof the housing to establish communication from the interior of Athe housing to the pipe leading to the outlet pipe, and an outlet pipe leading from 'the housing to the interior of the tank.
4. The combination With a flushing tank provided. with the usual inlet and outlet pipes and with the usual over llow tube connected to the outlet pipe, of an annular housing arranged on the over flow tube, a tubular connection lroin the inlet pipe to the annular housing, there being an outlet formed through the outer wall of the annular housing, and there being an aperture formed through the inner Wall of the housing.
5. A combined silence chamber and alter iill lor flushing tanks, comprising an annularl housing, provided with an opening which is connected to the inlet pipe of the tank, there being an opening liorn'ied through the inner wall of the housing to establish coirnnunieation from the interior of the housing with the opening through said housing7 and there be ing a water outlet formed through the side ol' the housing In testimony whereof, I have signed my naine to this specification, in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
