Be it known that I, RAPHAEL Nn'rTnR, a citizen of the Republic of France, residing at New York city, in the county an tate of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Devices for Refacing Valve-Seats, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
The invention, subject of this applic is an improvement in devices of the general character described and claimed in an application filed by Harry S. Clark and mysel on August 10, 1907, Serial No. 387,976, and
consisting of an instrument for refacing the valve seats of power pumps and similar devices, and which is adapted to be introduced into the pump casing and mounted for operation upon the valve seats, e latter, when worn, may be refaced or true up without removal from the pump, or the dismemberment of the pump itself.

It may be stated, before proceeding to a description of the improvement, that in the operation of power pumps it becomes necessary at intervals, more or less frequent according to the extent and nature of their resides in improvements in v 1 use, to reface the pose it has been ear I to remove pump chambers,

The stem 1' for supporting the instrument which I employ is shown in Fig. 6 as at its lower end with a threaded portion by means of which it is screwed into the central socket of a valve seat 2, after the valve stem has been removed therefrom. Upon this stem the refacing device is mounted, and while the detailed construction of these devices may-be very greatly varied, their most practical embodiment, so far as now known to me, is that illustrated in the drawings. Referring now to Figs. 1 and 3, the numeral 3 designates a disk or plate to the upper face of which is secure a bevel gear plate 1, and to the under side of which are secured the cutters and their appurtenances. Secured also to the plate 3 is a casting 13 (see Figs. 8 and 4:), forming a chamber immediately above the bevel gear plate 1, in which are located the wheels 14;, 15 and 16, of a planetary gear system, the said wheel 16 surrounding the stem 1. e spindles of the gear 14: and 15, extend through the plates 1 and 3 and carry worm wheels 17 18 engaging with corresponding pinions 19, 20, that are mounted on threaded shafts 21 and 22, passing through and in threaded engagement with the blocks or carriages 23, 2 1 that carry the cutters 25, 26, and slide in guides 27, 28 attached to the under side of plate 3.
